citizen column
11 years 10 months ago
I've been asked a few times why my column didn't appear in the Citizen on Wednesday. It was canned by the powers that be there for being "racist" - it was a light-hearted look at what Zimbabwe would have been like if top breeder, Mick Goss, had been President instead of Mugabe.
To be fair, Jack Milner told me yesterday that it was shown to about 10 people at their office and some thought it fine, a couple not. It has, in fact, been sent to Mick Goss for his view.
It does say in my contract, that they have the right to omit anything they don't deem favourable to racing so it's not a big deal for me. However, the sadness is that - unlike UK and Aussie journos who write what they like - we are so obsessed with the BEE situation that the people who suffer are the paper's faithful readers. I had one phone call yesterday saying "I want to throw up after reading another "we've been maligned" story in Racing Express.
Happy punting, Molly

What has the BEE situation got to do when your article that was going to be published had a political tone to it ?

I posted my thoughts on the other Molly thread! Sad short sighted almost like the old SA . But then again to expect P or the NHA to have some vision or balls would be asking a lot? Keep going Molly don't give in I'm sure the article will be read in some publication soon. Maybe even here on ABC!
