Could it be Robert Sivewright - was his regular rider in 1963?

Charles Laird has just come to the rescue, and, would you believe, I was looking for a pic of this person yesterday, to include in the Charles Laird interview which flights on "Stable Talk" tomorrow morning at 06h45. It is Claudie Allen, who was an apprentice at the time, and who finished 4th on Hyacinth, for Syd Laird, in the Durban July of 1961. Laird won the race with Kerason.

Allen, who once occupied the stables now occupied by Charles Laird, at Clairwood, was the godfather of Therese Laird (Mitchley).

Wow, remember Claude Allen and his Stetson saddling Brian Strydom in the Clairwood Park heydays, most of his horses racing in his brothers colors, W.Allen, I think.

I don't really remember Claude Allen, except for seeing his name in the racecard, but yes, Brian Strydom rode some nice outsiders for him...(tu) gave some other jocks some chances too.

The jockey who rode Hyacinth was definitely Claude Allen, and that's the jockey in the photograph, according to Charles Laird.

Uncle Claude Walker is still alive, living in PE. I can get his number if required by Neighmaster.
