Joey Ramsden sounds like a whinging punter

Below is from Joeys sp column,i would be extremely unhappy if i was the accused

" We had an extremely interesting situation in Coltrane’s race where the jockey on the inside of Coltrane decided to pull out for no reason whatsoever and force us wide, thus negating any chance Coltrane had. It looked to be a plain and deliberate move and there was no sense in it at all. Personally, I think it stinks! While we all look at racing through rose-coloured glasses, it is the easiest way in the world of getting a horse beaten. If you are on a moderate horse and sitting on the inside of the favourite – and if you are lucky enough to have a betfair account – just telling your man to pull out and shove the favourite wide for no reason whatsoever is just as effective as a jockey sitting dead still like a corpse on a horse or pulling back extremely hard on the reins. I think this incident needs to be looked into as, for those lucky enough to hold betfair accounts, it appears to be easy money to lay the favourite if you know you are drawn inside of him as you can make his life an absolute misery." Fascinating comment as always from Ramsden's Ramblings in Sporting Post every week. Or read the whole story on www.joeyramsden.com

Wonder if Joey realises just how much liquidity is available on a run of the mill SA race on bet fair , especially if the race takes place during the UK time slots

Agreed. He punted with the bookmaker I worked for back in the day,and was a very good judge.

However,in this instance I agree with Hibbs.

I don't know if this is true or not and I am honest enough to say I'm not going to look! But, whether true or not, I do give JR credit for being one of the very few it seems to me who speaks what is on his mind. I have long heard rumours of not all being as it seems with CT racing and most of it seems to centre around the jockeys down there. It is also true to say that more than once I have been bemused, and sometimes quite vocal about, "strange" rides, whether it be going down the inside when there is obviously no run to be had there, baulking, "soft" rides etc etc. I am with JR in saying it should be investigated, if indeed what he says is true, and a lot of other rides in that region too should perhaps be looked at with answers required...

As for Betfair, you don't need an account, you just need to know someone who does and I have little doubt that IF any result is colluded in any way, those people have access to Betfair should they want it.

Let's face it, there are so many rumours about SA racing and there is rarely so much smoke without a fair amount of fire. Assuming this is correct, SA racing seems to need constant policing and the quicker it happens the more trust everyone will have in it and the more likely it is to survive.

englander you correct regarding the policing BUT the police here the nhra are funded by the operaters so im sure i dont have to paint pictures for you in this regard...do you honestly believe if the equivalent of the ruler of dubais yard was found to have drugs in them like it happened in the uk lately the same outcome would have happened in south africa?no chance

I tend to agree with Englander....and JR does speak his mind and good for him....
And I agree that more needs to be done about some of the antics that happen during running....a lot is probably just eagerness...but IMO it is against the rules...stamp them out and everyone benefits again. Lots of horses are being impeded.
it reminds me of the road traffic laws of this country...only speeding is being policed....and anything else is no longer a crime....

is this the race? cause if so it seems that Coltrane raced wide all the way - perhaps it is another race?

Finally someone speaks up. The man has common sense. Just because you dont like to imagine that it could happen, the fact is that it is a possibility. If what he is saying is true, then it does need to be looked at. In the worst case, the jockey needs to be reprimanded for riding like an amateur.

I enjoy JR, MDK etc when they speak their mind about the running of racing.
(tu)

People tend to listen to them and every step to improve racing is welcome
