How to put together a breeding syndicate?
11 years 8 months ago
I am wondering if anybody can give me some advise on how to put together a syndicate to buy a stallion from Britian
I found a stallion who are having great success with his offspring and I have done some homework and I think the stallion will do great in SA as it have strains of Northern Dancer, The Minstral and some very good German Blood, I do not want to reveal to much, but I want to be bold and say it could be a second Silvano ( ok throw stones I can take it
)
The current owner will entertain offers.
also how do you determine the value of a stallion?
I am willing to go in JV with somebody in order to learn the ropes but all agreements must be in writing
Waiting for reponses

I cannot afford to buy a kilo of beef let alone a whole horse...I personally would much prefer to own a good broodmare ....but I'm just talking....

I am no expert, but with any deal involving a large sum of money, you would probably need a heavy partner that will take the majority. To get many small shareholders is difficult. Rather try and convince one heavy that your stallion is a good business proposition and work yourself a small share.

James Blond be careful too many stallions in SA ,rather take small shares in a few race horse
But as been told by Ben Hur I know nothing !!!
We started with 6 and now race over 40 ourslves and 18- 2 year olds with partners and stable earned over 2.5 mil in PE alone
Not a PR move at all just be careful ...

?......you gonna have ta get in bed with the money men........need big onions to go it alone or rope in the type of investment required to get a top stallion here......and from what I hear some of us have got our images tarnished and no one will touch us with the big bucks.......:
Why not get Gary Player involved......too late blew his chances of standing stallions when he got the wrong sons of Storm Cat full siblings one more hopeless than the other......:
Tell Dr Jacobs you got another Silvano type......he will say he got plenty more in Germany
The ones that may have an interest have already blown their stack and are recycling the toss outs from the top studs
Besides classic European lines are yesterday's news ......now we are going the full Yankee with the
A P Indy brigade.

Interesting. How many stallions are there in SA and how many do you think is the optimal number?
