Equimark Stakes

Whilst the concept of the Equimark Stakes might be a good idea, the make up of saturday's fields are disappointing.

The fillies race is made up of 8 runners, with one 1-time winner,2 mdns and 5 unraced horses.

The colts equivalent is made up of one 1-time winner,6 mdns and 9 unraced horses.Clearly,as stated by Justin Snaith with his maiden winner in the juvenile feature on Met day, these races(with added stakes so to speak) are best targeted with horses that have yet to win a race.Is it not time for the conditions of these races to change? It is the trainers job to best place his/her horses,so obviously that is all that is happening here, but I for one won't be spending R1 on the Kenilworth exotics on saturday. The objective of the 'brain game' is form study is it not. What form is there to study here?

The problem I see is that we once again have the situation where we encourage horses not to win races,so that they won't get penalties and therefore have a better chance of winning a race with a much higher stake than a maiden for example.I know nothing,I don't listen to information, but I can guarentee you that Justin Snaith will win one of these feature races because he has sat on his horses waiting specifically for this race. It's good training on his part, but I really think that our system should be over-hauled.
