yes affirmative the benevolent fund is being managed by Mr Dunn and the WPOTA now falls under Larry. There was a letter sent out last year to owners about this.

I have mentioned this before. Surely this has to be illegal? Even if the unclaimed dividend fund is unclaimed after 10 years or however long the statutory requirement is for them to keep the fund, then that money should go back into the development of horse racing???
Why should it be declared as part of the bottom line to boost Phumelela's EPS? Surely that money does not belong to them to do with as they please?
Under TAB Transvaal this account was very heavily regulated as it was deemed punters money and even after the required time had to be disbursed back into racing.......
These guys never cease to amaze me....NEVER!!!!

Perhaps it should be used to fund accommodation for the grooms instead of going to the bottom line. Hang on that somehow rings a bell.

Ironical that Robyn Louw and Robin Bruss are saying what I as a lone voice on the Gauteng Gambling Board warned about.
At the time, my proposals (shot down by Sello Rasethaba and then MEC Jabu Molekethi) were:
1. that horseracing should be left as a Section 21 Company;
2. The ‘sport’ opens its doors to all punters…..black and white. The response to this was ‘Give blacks a horse and they will eat it up!’;
3. Give the industry a tax break (even 1%);
4. Ban bookies;
5. Set the (then) Jockey Club apart as a totally independent regulatory and controlling body, etc.
The Gambling Board members (most of whom knew very little about the industry and were more interested in the casino bids) and Province were hoodwinked by a handful of sweet-talkers into agreeing to the corporatisation of the industry….without any checks and balances!
What is more, they handed over State assets in their haste towards the casino licences, without due regard for legal process (now the subject of investigation by the Public Prosecutor which our ‘investigative and fearless’ journalists are loathe to report on!
Corporatisation has done no favours to the industry......despite the multitude of praise singers! The bale out of WC is from profits accrued at the expense of punters…..( all of that money could have been in the coffers of the industry, or utilised for stakes increases, promoting entry into the sport by subsidy and/or grants, etc). Even the big owners within the industry are pretenders; they are merely re-cycling the massive profits they made on Phumelela shares and seen as ‘patriotic’.
Just where were they prior to corporatisation….a vulgar question it seems?
Until now, the only ‘noise’ against corporatisation has been by myself. Some people who professed to be against it had their own agendas and were only prepared to get involved selectively.
Now, as co-ordinator for South Africa First, I have made ‘de-corporatisation’ of the industry a priority. I will promote this and sensitise the mass on every opportunity.
In view of the obduracy and arrogance of Phumelela and Government from the Presidency down (they have refused to ever engage with / respond to me over the years), I earnestly hope that Malema and EFF will not latch onto this gripe also!
After all, the Phumelela scenario is a classical instance of what they stand against….not so?

Flash, get the facts right !!!
1)Larry was not at Parliament
2)It was not "top secret" and public were allowed to attend
3)I attended as an independent, my sole mission being to address the ludicrous and untrue claims of Mr Simota and to show my side of the immense progress made in terms of Transformation of grooms.
For more than one reason, I know that I have hit the mark, for the benefit of all in Racing.
