How many trainers re based in Kimberley itself?

10trainers about 30 workriders and about 80 grooms i stand to be corrected just as a matter of intrest steph and vernon head groom are 2 woman of color

that makes it pretty tough to make a living there. Assuming you not counting the "travelling " trainers like human and phillip then that leaves 10 rainers "fighting" for 300 horses, roughly 30 horses each. Of course some have more but i dont believe that raining 30 horses can be profitable on low margins like i am showing, so something has to give.....I AM SURE certain trainers put IN more than they charge even from their own pockets BUT clearly some dont.

I have bought horses from kimberley and they were not in a very good way.

Its all about money at the end of the day, most of us owners should really not be in the game as it should cost far more than it does. With 30 horses in a yard there is NOT much fat left over from a 4k invoice.

As a Kimberley based trainer, I have followed this discussion with interest.

A big issue has and is being made of Jaap putting an injured horse into a camp. Local trainers are having a lot to say about this. My opinion is that they need to make sure that their own houses are in order. I know of injured horses being placed in paddocks for much longer than the permissable length of time i.e. one hour. Water buckets are kicked over or spilt and no water is replaced in the hours that the horse stands there in the boiling sun as there is no shade.

Japie is being lambasted for what has happened; maybe also as a result of jealousy for the number of winners that he produces on any given raceday and the fact that he receives new horses into his stable on virtually a weekly basis.

My advice is that the Kimberley trainers leave this matter in the hands of the relevant authority to conduct an investigation into what has happened.

There was a black stipe stationed at Flamingo Park. He eventually left the course due to the bad treatment he received from certain trainers. I fully support the fact that there should be a resident stipe on course at all times so that stabling facilities and the well being of horses can be checked on a daily basis. He also needs to be treated with respect as this was sorely lacking with the previous stipe. This will also go a long way to prevent any reoccurrence of what has just happened.

Easy its never easy mking a living out of it but we love it and put the same time in then bigger centre trainers sometimes even more its like sham racing said steph doesnt need to be training horses but the love for racing is much greater sumbody ask me the other day what we feed our horses here when i told him its the same feed that all trainers use he couldnt believe it maybe its time that somebody like jimmy lithgow comes down here and make a documentary bout kimb as a whole standing outside in witer at 6 in the mrning when its minus 6 or in summer at 3 when its a sweltering 40plus tounderstand that we not here just to make up the numbers

FD... wise words perhaps in many ways and I am one who, though I freely confess I am not one who can be described as an animal lover, won't bring myself to watch the video. But, surely irrespective of what other trainers might do better it sounds very much to me that IF Mr Visser is guilty here then he is rightly being lambasted... and not so much by "jealous" trainers but by pretty much everyone who has commented here. If he is any way guilty then the book must be thrown. It is no secret on this forum that he is far from my favourite trainer but that is through the eyes of a punter, I mind not that he has winners, it is the often unfathomable changes in form that concerns me most and I find the rumours "unsettling". It is very rare that there is this much smoke without at least a small fire burning somewhere. I don't say he is guilty but it must be investigated thoroughly and the truth of the matter(s) openly reported. Then, as Mr H says, the 152 different sides to every story can be concentrated into one picture.

i have asked this question before and recieved no answer...did mr visser work in pe as an assistant trainer or in his name and get a lengthy suspension or is it another visser im thinking about?

Amazing how we just assume that the reason the stipe was ill treated was due to his race and not due to any disagreement over the handing down of suspensions and fines deemed by certain trainers to be too harsh...The same argument that would have ensued not matter what race the stipe was .... sad
