Clairwood Park Sale Update and questions.
11 years 8 months ago
The last quarter of 2012 saw the sale of Clairwood Racecourse from Golden Circle to Capital Property Fund, who in turn will lease the 77-hectare Durban Racecourse to Golden Circle for a period of two years.
During this time, Greyville Racecourse, also owned by Golden Circle, will be upgraded and operations will be moved from Clairwood to the newly renovated premises.
How is this going?[/color]
The new stables would be built at the Summerveld Training Centre.
How is this going?
Mr Nairac said the board decided to sell Clairwood because running it as well as Scottsville and Greyville in KwaZulu-Natal was not paying sufficient dividends. He said the idea was to try to consolidate races and events at Greyville by putting in an all-weather track.
But several trainers complain there is not enough space at Greyville for a second track. One said the Clairwood grounds were better positioned for it as the one thing it had was space.
How the new track coming along?
According to Gold Circle, the sale would result in reduced operating costs and additional and sustainable revenue from the greater use of Greyville.
“The sale of Clairwood will provide investment generated from the surplus revenue of R200m and secure horse racing’s future for generations to come,” the company said in a statement.
How will the 200 million be invested to secure racing? Seems a very generic statement.
Clairwood Ratepayers and Residents Association chairman Rishi Singh said it would oppose any industrial development on the racecourse site that added to the existing load of air pollution in the South Durban Basin area.
Has this been resolved?
Desmond D'SA, of the South Durban Community Environmental Alliance, indicated previously that the alliance would protest if Gold Circle sold the racecourse without consulting residents. The racecourse, built in 1921, was the only remaining large "green lung" in an area surrounded by petro-chemical and chemical industries.
Has this been resolved??
Duck Pond
Based on the currently proposed development layout provided, it may be the case that
the existing Duck Pond will be reclaimed by placement of fill.
