lol.....well said.....but funny how these races are also just loaded with potential......some shrewd trainers keep back their unexposed bombs and nominate just for days like these........I remember when they were first introduced as "super" maidens and worth R150K on the big classic race days and a normal maiden plate on an ordinary race day was only R35K.......stuff the big RTR purse.....just find an inexpensive forward sort on a cheaper sale and wait for days like these.....

Great initiative and a great opportunity for those lucky ( and capable) enough. I appreciate the 'champion of the underdog' campaign, however... There are horses in there that could not earn in Kimberly, and will not be able to have a share of the prize. That makes it easier for the usuals who had umpteen horses to nominate... Blah blah etc etc... Granted, it is exciting for an owner who may never have the stage, but the potential of this initiative is not being fulfilled. Either let the 'underdogs' race eachother, or let competition, the life blood of our participation in this game, be the victor. Just my view, however either way, a great win for racing! Viva le princess!

Why not turn the stakes upside down and give the stakes to the last 4 past the post? Racing is about rewarding the best not the worst - I will never understand this logic and I do appreciate that racing needs all types of horses( I've only owned mediocre horses) but how can you possibly give such ludicrous amounts to maidens - I hope RECOURSE wins by 120 lengths but I know he won't so what reward do they owners of this MR 56 get ?

Flash I couldn't agree with you more - those with runners in these two races think its a GREAT IDEA.
Hats off to the princess for her massive donation, but surely the powers that be could have guided her to a far better idea than a maiden plate ?
surely we would have had a better type of horse running had these races been for say 2,3,4,or 5 time winners who weren't going to hollywood anyway - & would probably never race in graded races at all !
If anyone has seen the " secret millionaire " - he / she wants to ensure his " donation " goes towards a good cause & is not wasted.
i suppose we have difference of opinions on this one.
