Muzi and Nooresh Macau bound

The Macau Jockey Club is finalising a roster of talent for the Macau Gaming Show Invitational Jockeys Challenge to be held at Taipa on the night of Friday November 15.

MJC Director of Racing Graham Loch, says the Club has been fortunate in attracting an outstanding group of promising young riders to Macau.

They include South African Muzi Yeni who at 26 finished third last year in what is arguably one of the world's most fiercely contested domestic competitions, Mauritian Nooresh Juglall, 22, presently features on both the South African and Mauritius premierships, promising Hong Kong rider Keith Yeung who has started his season in great fashion, and Korean Seo Seung Soo who presently sits second on the Seoul table.

These rising stars will be complemented by seasoned riders Singaporean representative Jose Verenzuala, 45, and celebrated Australian Clare Lindop, who at 34 has four G1 wins to her credit including the Victoria Derby and Adelaide Cup as well as two Adelaide jockey premierships.

Luis Corrales. last season’s Macau champion jockey and WL (Peter) Ho will provide the local flavour to the Challenge with last season’s champion apprentice Charles Perkins selected as the reserve.

Loch said that as the Challenge clashes with feature race meetings in a number of countries including Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Japan, Canada and a similar series in South Africa, the MJC can take great satisfaction at securing the quality riders who have already committed to ride at Taipa.

“The club is particularly excited by the efforts this season of Muzi Yeni while Nooresh Juglall's record in only three years is quite astonishing,” Loch said.

“Hong Kong’s Keith Yeung is an exciting talent and the club appreciates the HKJC gesture in making him available.

“It is the club's aim to work with our partner MGS to promote and develop this meeting as one of the focal points of the Macau racing calendar with an emphasis on promising young riders from other racing countries.

“It is interesting that both Yeung and Seo have previously ridden in Macau in our Apprentices Invitation Series and their careers have progressed to this Challenge.”

The Invitational Jockeys Challenge will be complimented by three Group races on the November 15 program.

It is expected that several of the invited jockeys will also gain mounts in these feature races.
