Phumelela/Racing South Africa vs the IEC
11 years 9 months ago
Had to do the registration thing this weekend(it’s the right thing to do!!)
I wanted to vote(never missed an Election in my Voting Life) so went onto the web site which was easy to use and found I was still registered in my old ward. Two clicks and found a voting station in my area. I drove out to a CLEARLY branded station and on my way I was reminded of my Civic Duty with white and blue posters urging me to vote.
The station was manned by three people , the point of entry person could direct me to the correct path without hesitation. I was greeted with a smile and hello by the voting official who swiftly dolled out a CURRENT registration form and pen. I was directed to sit and complete my form without bother or fear of safety(I obviously don’t live in Bekkersdal!!) I completed the simple form and then handed back to the official who swiped my ID and a machine printed out my ID and new Ward which was swiftly adhered to said book. This whole exercise took a not more than 5 minutes and I was off with a goodbye and “see you when you vote”. Brilliant!
Now let’s look at Phumelela..
1. They barely advertise major races outside of the Industry-
2. The Vaal is still very poorly sign marked and cannot be found on my GPS as a venue.(maybe my software is old but there are massive places to advertise of the side of the road leading to that track. The casino's in my area - Emperor's Palace and Carnival have that angle tapped)
3. They announce a new bet – Bi Pot – and yet the Gauteng punters will not have forms to fill in and will have to call bets.
4. You have to practically beg the ladies for Racing betting slips and waste time by standing in a punting line to get these forms(The bet slips must cost a fortune – I was once told that paper recyclers stole them and that’s why they were guarded with almost more security than JZ’s compound!!)
5. Staff are poorly trained and have a very limited knowledge of betting and punters frustrations.
6. The Tab web site goes down on me so often it should start charging for that!
7. Unlike the IEC who give out provisional voting results 8-12 hours after polls are closed TAB makes Soccer punters wait days before they release results and blame it on the Canary/Channel or any other Isle’s that need to verify the pools.
8. There are no mystery Australians that register late with the IEC and cause crazy results.
9. Before a major event like Elections the IEC get the Media involved and utilize Radio excellently. When there is a problem they tell you about it but obviously sometimes things do go wrong. Phumelela does not do this and the silent approach is better it seems.
10. When my ID was scanned I was not suddenly shocked to see that I was a sixteen-year-old girl unlike that poor horse in the Cape that suddenly found out she was another horse that actually could run!!
I have always been of the opinion that there is nothing wrong with copying a good Business model and making it your own.
Will I be voting in every election until I die? Yes!!
Will I continue punting for the rest of my life? Maybe not!
And no I’m not negative but realistic - Punters make Racing and they are the ones that Phumelela and Racing needs to placate. I hope that when this is read on Monday somebody says :”Let’s do it! Let’s put the punter first cause the pools and share price can only go up if we do”

Nicely put.
Unfortunately you have just wasted another valuable hour of your life constructiong this post.
ABC has been around for 7 years,I have been on the site for 6 and half years begging to be heard as a customer of this industry. There is plenty of moaning on here, but that's 'cos we are all gatvol. There are hundreds of constructive criticisms put forward on here, but nobody at PGE will acknowledge them.
I for one am finished making suggestions now,my time is far too valuable to waste on these smucks.
Good luck trying to get through.I admire your efforts even though I personally have given up.

Well said, Mr. H. I despair that your reasoned argument will fall on deaf ears, however.
