Was on my bucket list to go back there one day..lol looks like it will have to be Santa Anita now

The Forum has long been replaced by Staples Center in downtown and is a state of the art indoor arena.

Hollywood Park was bought by a real estate firm with the idea of tearing down the track and developing the lane.

Because it was in a scary and some blighted area, it fell out of favor with local racegoers, who began shunning it in the 1990s.

If not for the recession, it would have been closed down a few years earlier.

I won my first Grade 1 race with the very first horse I syndicated in 1987.

Hollywood Park was my backyard growing up, where I saw my all-time favorite horse Swaps run.

Many greats raced there, from Triple Crown winner Citation, to Triple Crown winner Seattle Slew, not to mention the likes of Dr. Fager and Spectacular Bid.

It lacked the class and best dates of Santa Anita, but it was modern at the time and a very fun place to be.

At least us Americans have the memories.

When the movie crowd ran it, it was the best run racetrack in America. But it fell on hard times.

Will leave many a racegoer with tears when the curtain comes down Barry, and of special thoughts of your 1st GR1 win. I'm sure at the very least veteran race commentator Alan Schoeman will have a lump in his throat and fight back the tears as he calls the last race today at Arlington when the racecourse closes forever.(td)

I attended a meeting there this year with the state vet. It was a great viewing track with very neat stabling at the back. Fortunate enough to see -Game on Dude- win the Hollywood Gold Cup

My outsider view was an over supply of claiming races and pre race medication are ruining the game there, along with the usual economic factors.

The verbal abuse the state vet was having to take from trainers was VERY surprising.

Glad I got to experience it.
