The security must be hectic with all these world leaders gathered in the same place and can only hope that respect for Madiba would nullify the urge to create a political violent statement

@Scotia:

Acknowledged and reciprocated; is there a medal out there? Lol!

@agra:

As a Sufi, I am not a supporter of AlQaeda and do not endorse their fabricated ideology. AlQaeda is the creation of the US and they have a (alarmingly!) symbiotic relationship; both create havoc, one for oil/security, the other for religious fanaticism!

Firstly, there is no AlQaeda network (or even a cell) in South Africa (don't believe the media on the 'white widow'!) amongst South African Muslims; the majority will readily identify with our country than with such elements.

Secondly, it would be suicidal for AlQaeda to carry out any mission in our country as the whole of Africa and the ME will turn against it.

Terrorists are terrorists; whether Taliban, Tamil Tigers, IRA, ET, Maoists in India, Chechyans in Russia, etc (for that matter, even the ANC when the military wing was launched by Madiba, reportedly much against the thinking of Nkosi Albert Luthuli, President of the ANC at the time!).

However, where religious extremism becomes convoluted with opposition to illegitimate/tyrannical regimes is a different kettle of fish and gives a despicable slant to terrorism!

If God put us on earth to wipe one another out, then why did He create us in the first instance?

Importantly, as fellow human beings, we should always attempt to understand and respect one another...and perpetually strive for universal peace..... Amen!

@ShezaPunter:

'U Stanger guys r hardcore. Up till Today!lol.

I was just onto 6 at the time mate!

However, I spent my school holidays in Carlisle Street, Durban at my maternal grandfather's place.

Yes, that was a despicable chapter in our lives...as Indians! I have heard numerous accounts of the incredulous monstrosity and animal behaviour.

The story line goes (conspiracy theory!)....

Africans were given free white man's liquor at the Victoria Street Beer Hall and told to attack and kill the Indians who were responsible for stealing their land, jobs, blah blah...typical mob inciting lingo! Apparently, white (English and Jewish) businessmen and sugar cane farmers were behind this.

Drunk like hell, the Africans started attacking Indians within the Victoria Street precinct; eye witness accounts were horrid. I am somewhat reticent about mentioning but this is what was allegedly done:

* a young girl was held by her legs and virtually split in two from her torso;
* women raped and stabbed;
* other young children and adults stabbed with spears and pangas and sliced alive.

When the rampant mob tried the same in the Clairwood, Indians took them on and sent them packing!

Fortunately, the British navy was at Durban harbour and gave refuge to many Indians whilst the local police and army did nothing!

It becomes an ominous and serious issue that, during the late 80's, Chief Buthelezi openly reminded Indians (activists within the Natal Indian Congress) of the '49 riots; I would have thought that after Madiba, he would have the gall to apologise!

There have been numerous other accounts of the riots and you might find some elders in the Clairwood and Victoria Street areas who still have vivid memories of this 'don't talk about it' chapter.

Ironic that today, we have similar sentiments being expressed openly against those who are not African?

So, that's the Rainbow Dream of Madiba; that hatred and enmity is being spread as gospel at every opportunity to divide us even more than apartheid did?

I must add (in fairness) that there were a number of whites who gave refuge/protected the unarmed Indians against this 'Bulala Makula' (kill the coolies, like Bulala Mtakhathi' 'kill the white man and his magic of Piet Retief!) instigation.

This where Madiba also failed in his 'reconciliation' with our people; no reference or apology whatsoever to the Indians for the riots, the bitterness which prevails to this day!

But then, Indians being in the minority (and seen as 'invaders' and resented for their relative successes)....... WTF?

This is Africa ....for Africans!

Even me, as a descendant of the original, indigenous KhoiSan....am not relevant in the country of my ancestors!

Just finished watching a documentary on the build up and Victory in the Rugby World Cup and if you can watch that as a South African that lived through it without shedding a few tears you have no heart - That man's wisdom and those that worked with him saved this country from a Civil War.

Playing the Enemy is the book on which the move Invictus was made. Movie does no justice to the full story. An exeptional read about world cup rugby in 1995, the politics and Madiba. He was truely an amazing man
