NO JUSTIFACATION NO JUSTICE an open letter to Dud Veldtman
17 years 2 months ago
Having now watched the race on numerous occasions I cannot for the life of me see how it was decided that appy Luke Coleman should be given a 3 months suspension for his ride on Golden Dice and the only conclusion that i can arrive at is that there is a ulterior reason for the heavy handed approach DUDley Veldtman adopted, taking into account that the kid is still a 2,5kg claimer which is indicative to the fact that he is still learning his trade, yes Mr.Veldtman he is an appy and at worst he should have been found guilty of poor judgement with a stern talking to and sent on his way,it is glaring obvious that you are trying to make a statement in your new position and have chosen a so called "small name" to vent your anger on,are you not aware that fearing your wrath will not earn you respect from anyone within the industry, your bullying tactics do not sit well with me nor any other fair minded person, what will your next move be??? 6 weeks for parking skew in the Jockey parking?? For someone that has worked all over the world in the industry you should be a lot more professional in your work ethic you have shown yourself to have a very sinister streak and extremely poor judgement, I find myself asking what made you decide to move to Capetown?? or was it by design?? you have been given a position of responsibility don't abuse it to the detriment of my beloved industry, leave your personal views/grudges outside the inquiry room and do the job you are being (over)paid to do to the best of your limited ability.

I couldnt agree with you more anybody who knows anything about the way Golden Dice runs knows that he has to be produced as late as possible to do his best I backed him that day when he ran second to Berlusconi 0.8 lengths receiving 0.5 kg from the winner under a patient ride from the very promising Luke Coleman. The next time the two horses met Berlusconi received 1 kg from Golden Dice who raced very handy that day and beat him by 2.7 lengths so going on that it you have to say it was very very unfair to punish the jockey for his ride.

Found him to be an unapproachable, dictatorial, self-absorbed and arrogant Dud.

Look luke is no saint! Lost his licance for smoking it upand taking drugs!been on the wrong side of the law a few times now! I do agree his ride on the horse concerned was a shocking one! You guys have got to agree on that,I also thinkand stand to be corrected this is not his first suspension since he has come back! He is not the first appy in the cape to get 3 months so did Mr Puller! Do you guys remember ? I say its not setting an example its fair if other appys have been given 3 months then he must surve his! Send him back to Durban will not harm him to be re schooled?

Is this not the same chap that gave Jockey fareed Anthony a long suspension for riding a distance horse purely according to Instructions over a sprint distance. This in spite of the trainer, Bass appearing in the jockey's defense.

I have not watched the race, nor have I seen the replay, so I am in no position to comment on this incident.
Some time ago, I had a meeting with a different Stipe and the Jockey Club, regarding the same type of incident. Obviously a different jockey was involved. I was totally against the decission to suspend the jockey for 3 months. At this meeting I was firstly shown the replays, in "extra slow motion". Thereafter I was shown a list of the jockeys "KNOWN PUNTERS", with an analisys of on which horse "their" money was in the race. I was then asked to watch the race again, and asked to answer the question "Why would jockey XXX on horse YYY go past the eventual winner when he knows that his PUNTERS' money is on YYY.
I was very surprised at how orginised they are and how much information they had.
Obviously this is a different situation that I have no knowledge off. Somebody may want to meet with Veldtman. My suggestion is that you may be as surprised as I was.

As a matter of interest, is there an appeal avenue open to the Jock, or is that it?
If there is, I suggest he takes it - nothing to lose? (or does it cost an and a leg??)
I too have not seen said race - but it does seem very harsh on a young lad starting out.
Maybe a 'part suspended sentence' would be more appropriate (50/50%), or is that not an option?
Respectfully, Jim.

he has appealed Jim but he was off for 6 months on a substance abuse related suspension and has just come back after sorting himself out and whilst i have no sympathy for him on that count he has cleaned up his act and it would seem that his sentence was past down with that in mind
