Hahaha....................in the Uk the Tote is referred to as a Bookmaker & is owned by Betfred which bought the Tote out from the Govt. in one of those privatization deals.

Yet they maintain 60 odd racetracks, pay stakes & give out grants & also donate to horse care & charities annually.

Supposing the Tote supermarket decided to hold a raffle and the 1st prize was a hamper with a chicken, a leg of lamb and some vegetables in it.

Would it be legal for the bookmaker supermarket to put the same hamper together in the car park outside, intercept customers and say, "hey it's a bit inconvenient for you to go in and buy the Tote raffle ticket so just buy one of ours and if your number comes up in the Tote raffle u can have this hamper?"

Supermarkets sell lotto tickets but don't keep the profits , they act as agents

Paying bookies to act as agents on some exotics would benefit everyone in the long run

Tote for exotic bets, bookies for fixed wins and multiples

I would be surprised if there are no bookies that are Tote agents too. All off course Totes in SA are Tote agencies if I'm not mistaken.

TIPSTER one correction, the totes raffle actually only includes half a chicken, a carrot or three and a few lamb chops after all the tote supermarket owners are very greedy and must take there cut first...>:D<

and a minute before the raffle closes you see half a chicken but two minutes later you are left with a wing as the rest was eaten buy an "phantom Aussie punter"

This is only noticeable because our pools are so tiny. Imagine if all Win and Place bets went through the tote, it would cost you a lot of money to turn half a chicken into a wing! :) On any day, on any race, at any French venue, that magic trick might cost you over a million.
