To me it is all a joke and both sides need to stand up and be counted. There is absolutely no way in 3 hours the track condition changed that would have changed the jockeys minds to race so their protests are very thin. However where there is smoke there is fire and there are countless incidents at Greyville where meetings are abandoned. The slightest but of wet and the track tears up and meeting is abandoned.

There surely has to be a loss of income for all concerned so I really cannot see that anybody involved is not trying their best to get the meetings to take place. The fact that some may not be qualified enough could be a problem, however this is a problem faced not only in Horse Racing.

I know that they called in 5 experts including from Kenilworth, Turffontein top turf, golf club and one other and got 3 different ways of fixing the course. Bob you don't have a photo from the left or right of this so it is going across in front of you. With the grass that length it would probably be hard to see the drainage drain.

Craig that photo was from Muis, not sure he has anymore

Ps in the UK horses are jumping paths and lines every race, but the jocks there don't organise a strike

My question still stands from earlier that week. If all the trainers thought the track was in a "safe condition" why so few entries in the main race and so many scratchings in the same race ? Trainers were not prepared to race their better horses under these track conditions. IMO There were numerous injuries which horses incurred in the previous race meeting at Greyville. To me as an owner I wouldnt want my horses running if there is a chance of injury because of the track. If the jocks felt the same about their safety Im 100 % behind them.

The Jockeys actions have been vindicated

www.sportingpost.co.za/2014/05/greyville...-jockeys-vindicated/

At the request of Gold Circle (Pty) Limited, The National Horseracing Authority of Southern Africa (NHA) appointed a Board to inquire into the circumstances and reasons that led to the abandonment after the running of the first race of the race meeting held at the Greyville Racecourse on 28 February 2014 as a result of the Jockeys disagreeing with the unanimous decision of a Panel appointed in terms of the provisions of Rule 5.2.3 that the condition of the track was sufficiently safe to enable the remainder of the races to be run.

The NHA appointed a Board consisting of Adv Guy Hoffman S.C. and Mr Alick Costa to conduct the inquiry. Adv Hoffman S.C. was appointed the Chairman. The inquiry took place in Durban on 9 April 2014. The Board made it clear at the outset that the scope of the inquiry was of a preliminary nature to report to the NHA whether there would appear to have been any infraction of the Constitution or the Rules of the NHA and if so, whether any further proceedings and the nature thereof should follow.

After perusing and considering the statements that had been obtained from 11 Jockeys, the Chief Stipendiary Steward of the Kwa-Zulu Natal Stipendiary Board, the Academy Riding Master and 4 Apprentices and after hearing and considering the evidence of 12 persons, the view of the Board is that the conduct of the Jockeys was reasonable and justifiable, that the Panel should have upheld the protest by the Jockeys and ordered that the remainder of the race meeting be abandoned. Accordingly, the Board is of the view there has been no infraction of the Constitution or any of the Rules of the NHA and therefore no further action falls to be taken.

should the nha not be opening an investigation into gold circle as to why the track wasn't in a condition to race thus costing all owners trainers jockeys and others who make a living out of racing ?are the racing operators untouchable and answerable to nobody?
