How many horses called SHAMAL

11 years 7 months ago
#439511
This horse is shown as a 3 yr old 1st timer in the 2nd race today..................a horse with the same name and breeding(??) had 5 or 6 runs in 2008/2009 without winning a maiden.(actually won the 6th run!!!)
I wonder if the NHA could possibly sort this out...............mind you I guess not! :o

I have sent a mail to the NHA!

According to Formgrids, a colt named Shamal (Medaaly by Missisippi Moon) won his maiden on 31 March 2009 (racing for Jess Kyraicou and Adv Maselle among others - trained by Ian Jayes) - indeed strange that 5 years later a filly has been allowed the same name :S

Checked this horse on Formgrids.

Comes up as one horse, not two, a 3 year old running at the Vaal today that last ran in 2009, a few years before it was born. 8-)

Formgrids also has this 3 yr old with those runs I mention (and confirmed by FORMSTAR.) so something is a mix up here!

But if you go to today's race - you will see that Shamal is shown to have run previously - and if you then go to any of those runs, and 'hover' your cursor over 'Shamal', you will see the details - including the breeding shown as by Medaaly out of Mississippi Moon

OK :S so it's even more and more of a mix up!

(Lets see what the NHA do about it!)

(I would guess that it is just a "repeat" name problem ,but I would think they have to scratch to sort out!)

the 2009 emperors palace sales catalogue show under the dam "mississipi moon" a colt "Shamal" by Medaaly born '05 unraced.
the 2012 emperors ready to run sale had a "Shamal" by AP Arrow bought by S Moffat.

So it appears Rob is right and this is a "repeat" name problem.
shouldnt have happen though.
