The Player on Bloomberg TV
11 years 4 months ago
A TV programme clanners might enjoy is on Bloomberg channel (411) this weekend. It tells the story of professional gambler Don Johnson (no, not the actor!,) who took $15 million from the casinos playing blackjack. He started off as a jockey, before becoming manager, then punter, at Parx racecourse, just playing casual blackjack on weekends. The show covers his strategy to beat the casinos in some detail, and also gets into the business of casino operations more generally. Very interesting.
It looks like this might become a series on Bloomberg, because although they showed the same episode numerous times over the weekend, each one had a slightly different description on the DSTV information bar. Something to look out for on weekends.

His story is very interesting and quite mathematical. The casinos were blindsided by his strategy and he chose Atlantic City because according to the DGE (Department of gaming enforcement) you are not allowed to ban or "back off" any player that you feel may be card counting.
Counting wasn't how he made his money anyway, in fact it had nothing to do with it........
Once you guys have watched the show I would be more than happy to give you some details!

@TH:
'Counting wasn't how he made his money anyway, in fact it had nothing to do with it........'
When I went to LA and Atlantic City (circa 1997/
during my stint with the Gambling Board, I purchased one or two books on casino gambling in Reno.
There was pointed reference to card counting as a strategy for blackjack. One or two players who managed to rip off the casinos were eventually banned.
Yep...someone borrowed the books and never returned them!
