Question to the rugby buffs
11 years 4 months ago
I'm looking to take a little stab on the S15 - now as I always try and find some value, I want to take a chance on an Aussie side (topping the group would lead to at least a semi-final, I assume). The Brumbies (no Jake White) are no value imo, so it's between the Reds and the Warrathas for me - any advice ?

in my opinion I would personally go for the Reds, but don't quite write off the brumbies yet, I think they will ride the wave that Jake white has set up for them last year, you don't just loose that form and confidence within a few months unless your name is MAN UNITED and MOYES:X
As far as the S.A teams go, Sharks have a big chance this season, Jake White said he will win the super 15 this year, the last time he said something like that about any team, was the Springboks, that they would go on to win the Tri Nations at that time and they did.
Probably be eating my words later on in the season though.
Goodluck

Frodo if you have to go for any Aussie side, personally don't give them any chance, at the value I would go with the Waratahs. They have Isreal Folau who can tear up any defense and should be more solid this year continuity with players.

Ok - so its 1 each for the Reds and the 'Tahs (both 14/1 on Hollywood) - looks like I'll have to use my coin again :S

Frodo- there are a number of ways of approaching your betting in Super 15.
For a start - I'm not going to tip you any team as I believe it is important that you make up your own mind as to what you fancy. There's nothing worse than doing your money on an event where your selection was not really even your own preference! Watch a few matches and you will quickly form an opinion. I spend a huge amount of time evaluating my rugby bets and I can tell you that Week 3 - Week 4 is often the best time to 'get on' the winner - whoever that turns out to be. So there is no need to dive in before the season starts.
Having said all of that it was significant to note the improvement of the Waratahs towards the end of 2014 when they started embracing an attacking mindset. So if you were to put a gun to my head I would agree with Shrek and lean towards them. Both the Brumbies & Reds have had head coach changes which usually disrupts more than it improves.
Your strategy regarding picking an Australian side because one HAS to make the playoffs is spot on.
In summary - decide on how much you wish to spend. Speculate, say, 50% of it up front and then feed the balance in over the early phases - particularly if the side suffers an early defeat and drifts.
The beauty of long term betting is the absence of time pressure. You can review your play each week and you are not stuck out with one loss. The art of long term betting is having the 'balls' to press when your side has just been beaten.
Have a good look at the fixture list ( which is well laid out on the Supersport website ) and plan your strategy.
