GC Press Release - Clairwood Sunday
17 years 2 months ago
Easter celebrations for racing in KwaZulu Natal will centre on Clairwood Racecourse in Durban on Sunday, March 23, 2008 at the Rising Sun Gold Circle Racing Carnival. The carnival promises to be a festive outing free for the entire family with top-class racing, fashion, a flea market and lots of live entertainment.
A smart field of ten runners have stood their ground for the running of the R125,000 Rising Sun Easter Handicap (Listed) over 2000m at Clairwood on Sunday.
Heading the weights is the well performed River Plate. Trained by leading Summerveld trainer Dennis Drier, River Plate has been building up steadily for a crack at the R3 million GommaGomma Challenge to be run at Turffontein next month but came back to his best form when beating Tamarino Bay over the course and distance recently.
Tamarino Bay, trained by Kumaran Naidoo, is also in the line-up and Naidoo has back-up in the form of the Australian-bred gelding Seeking The Stone who has finished first and second respectively in his last two starts.
The Sean Tarry-trained Bayete returns to the coast after a successful stint in Gauteng while one of the more fancied runners on the day will be Blank Cheque. Trained by Herman Bown, the four-year-old was a very easy winner of his most recent start over 1 600 m at Scottsville and should enjoy the step up in distance.
Frikkie Greyling, who assists trainer Glen Kotzen with his KZN satellite yard, will saddle two runners and both Tyne Bridge and Ser De Carrera have been in good form in recent weeks and come into the race with handy galloping weights.
Also in the field is the highly consistent Royal Day trained at Ashburton by Bart Rise. The gelding was beaten under a length by River Plate and Tamarino Bay at his last start and off bottom weight will be another of the more fancied runners.
There are eight races on the card, with six of the eight having attracted maximum fields which should make for a great afternoon’s racing.
Remember that entry for the day is free and great prizes can be won by all. Lucky draws and spot prizes for all family members are up for grabs. You have to be there in order to win any of the following prizes: Panasonic 54cm television, Panasonic MP3 Micro Hi-Fi Player, Sony Playstation 2 and a Sony DVD player. But it does not stop there as toasters, kettles and clock-radios are also available to be won for lucky patrons. All prizes are sponsored by Gold Circle.
Should you wish to dine in any of the Gold Circle, Clairwood Racecourse restaurants please call Ursula on 031 4691 020 for reservations.
