IT'S A MYSTERY TO ME............

I really battle with unravelling the operator’s thinking when it comes to the Tote.

Firstly – they claim that their REAL market is the R20 punter. So I buy that.

Second – they eliminate couplings on the exotics so as to create the ‘life changing dividend’ bet. For the R20 punter? OK. So I sort of buy that.

THEN – they throw in a totally contradictory dollop of really socialist/Marxist/collectivist and woolly headed logic by s-t-r-e-t-c-h-i-n-g place payouts to 5 places ( or more ) which, surely, must be sending droves of each way punters straight back to bookmakers in search of true value?

I’m looking right now at the dividends (Friday afternoon) where tote punters can look forward to a R1 return if Jackson finishes in the first 5. How’s that going to work for you come Saturday afternoon?

Yes – I know it may get better on Saturday. But how much better? 50/1 roughies will pay you R3,50 against the 12/1 you should be getting on a place. And so on and so forth.

Either punters are a good deal more stupid that I thought they were or people don’t really want to clear a profit when their selections arrive.

I just don’t get it. I think they should change the ‘place bet’ to the ‘ubuntu bet’.

.....exactly.... they have no idea....not a clue...6 places for big races.... then 5 for this one....when 4 with value is what a bookie can offer.....I wonder if you take tote odds with a bookie he give you 5 too....:S....
