One has to question the reason why these particular horses have been selected to be sold - they may have been judged to have reached their potential - or some other reason, but in the end I think 'Mayfair Speculators' would have worked out exactly the 'reserve' price they are prepared to take, and for a horse like Contador I would think that 'expected' price tag would be quite large; as for him being bought with the view of entering the Emerald Cup, I think that would be unrealistic - he gets 1000 and not much more.

Some of the other horses being offered on the sale (by other vendors), may go for 'realistic' prices - a few with MRs in the 60's and 70's may be able to earn in those MR handicap races - but one would need to make sure that they are relatively sound without any obvious problems.
