at Cape breeders seminar John Mcveigh the vet said that of the three racing surfaces ,sand is the best for the horses. least leg problems. it has give and slip. Poly has no slip and the horses legs take strain, so he finds most leg problems with horses from racing on poly. interesting.

The compactors are here. Very important meeting to finalise things this week and then the surface will improve drastically.
Yes, the sand has been very loose and deep and the jocks are on the verge of refusing to ride on it as it was on thursday. I dont blame them. Horses are returning with suspensories etc. There is urgent attention required and I have been assured that it will be done.
I will definitely report back here on ABC.

That is interesting Pixie and I will ask him about it as I was told awhile ago that when the American tracks changed to Polytrack they cut down on injuries by nearly 80%.

Craig, that is correct - the Americans had "dirt" tracks, with a base. Nothing can be worse than those, so Polytrack is a huge improvement on them. Vaal Sand is unique, in terms of construction and when properly maintained is the most horse friendly of all tracks.

Yes Greg, he fractured a bone there which ended his Racing career. Yes, that was on their "dirt" track.
