Lot of people will lose their jobs if this happens, and I thought the aim in SA was to create more jobs. It will definitely affect the turnovers locally downwards as well.

The cause of this if its true, are the shareholders of Phumelela, who want more and more money as dividends. When you sell 4 racetracks already and pay the proceeds out as dividends, and keep nothing for a rainy day what can you expect.Next sale Milnerton also to be paid out as dividends.Gold Circle have sold Clairwood but R200 million is ringfenced.Beware when the broedebond come baring gifts Gold Circle directors!!!

Lovely post and rare insight, Bobsmith.... IF ITS TRUE... then it is DEFINITELY the shareholders.... So what is it going to be? The "if" or the "definitely" ? And if its not true, what is it? Still DEFINITELY the shareholders or could it then be DEFINITELY NOT the shareholders ?

Some of you are so one track minded on the anti operator brigade that you just cannot see or accept any possibility of any good existing in the Industry.

Anyway, at least there's some humour here now and again.... you can only laugh at some posts.

We have all known for a few years that DSTV want us out and that DSTV are raping their subscribers and are not interested in any goodwill or suchlike. We know that they are money grabbing and cleverly structure their bouquet and packages to suit their bottom line and huge huge profits.

Now what would the shareholders be accused of should they have done nothing, not obtained their own broadcasting licence and suddenly we had no racing at all on any channel etc? Would they DEFINITELY have been wrong? Would they DEFINITELY have been guilty ? IF that is DEFINITELY correct, then what are they now DEFINITELY guilty of, by actually doing something ?

I am sure that IF you want to, you will DEFINITELY post a long list of their wrongdoings, nepotism and extremely unfair practices.

Any room for a competitor to come in?

Have some technology for the presenters on hand
some odds on screen
maybe a bookie to have his own channel and not just show horse racing
room for a sporting talk show
combined with some World series of poker for the open slots ( which we lost when ESPN ducked)
Maybe even a couple of bookie specials like abroad

OR just wishful thinking?

Will there ever be a competitor to show the Supersport feeds?
Does DSTV hold the sole rights to broadcast the supersport feeds?

The silence from the Teletrack management is predictably deafening, whether the closure of the channel is fact based or not, surely the Mc Turdy damagement brigade should at least have the decency to publicly address and advise their customers what the situation is one way or the other rather than continue with their "everything is under control attitude" when clearly it is not.
The continued "protected employment" policy of unqualified folk into management positions at Teletrack shines through in these times of crisis and so does the inability of those who jumped on the gravy train to do the job that they are (over)paid to do.
Had it not been for ABC i for one (and many many others) would have been left completely in the dark with regard to the possible closing of the channel and that is an absolute disgrace...but then again when playing cricket becomes a perquisite for attaining a management position then situations such as these are inevitable and should not be surprising.
Clearly the Australasian Economic Empowerment policy adopted by teletrack has not worked ,more to the point it has lead to the demise of what was once a great channel when run on a "local is lekker" basis...should we somehow get through this situation unscathed the very first thing that needs to be done is to readdress the mega shortfalls in the management structure, do a complete overhaul, book a few outward bound one way tickets with Quantas and work towards getting back to the product we once had.....
Give everything but up!
