Not sure what illness he is suffering from but I seen the below picture on Facebook and he looks quite ill

A great jockey.....................legend. Sad to see him look so ill, going downhill after a stroke and an amputation. Hope he gets some good health back.

Very sad to see how life is,1 minute you on top of things the next you at the bottom,get well soon Bertie.

Yes that was the 2nd Met that Bertie won on board Politician getting up to beat Festive Season when hopelessly boxed in.
Sure that the race could be uploaded.........................Titch perhaps?:S

Looking for the Queens Plate I have it somewhere, here is the '78 Met ~

It was the following year that he did the impossible to win the Met if my memory is correct. That season he also won the Queens Plate beating future July winner Over the air by 3.75 lengths when never coning off the bit and from the front.
