Soodum I would support you if you said that, no use looking back at the good old days, look forward where things are working, close cape close kimberly close vaal, polytrack Turfontein and Scottville, hold back dividends for a few years.4 racecourses, more meetings less costs

The reason that WC racing is so poor {not in horse quality} but in field sizes is simple
6 stables with big strings Bass Ramdsen Kannemeyer Snaith Marshall Kotzen supply more than 50%
of the runners and the same for winners
There are far fewer trainers in the WC than KZN or GAU so betting is less competitive
Every stable has some following so this also affects the betting market
The BIG punters are more likely to follow horses and jockeys but the smaller punter is different
Because the programme of racing is built around the big stables many horses that become
non competitive move out of the WC and earn elsewhere
Just watch the quality of 3yo maidens that come out as soon as it rains and the same
for unraced 2yo all bred in the purple
Nobody with any vision to make changes to the way racing has been run for to long
Therefore they will not improve

Clanners this applies to all sports programming in SA. When the weather is at its best in the Cape we have no sports ! It happens all around the rest of the country in the rainy provinces. Cricket great eg. Why would racing be any different ? Nobody can think logically now days except Loopy !

Lol tnx Oscar, but do you really think cape racing is doomed? Why would
so many big owners be investing so heavily in the region?

Some common sense prevails....its the month after our main season ,lots getting ready for Durban ,these arent machines we are racing, they also need a rest!Every year March is the month with the least racing.Overall for a season there are no fewer races than before.....less in March ,more elsewhere.
And for those who think Cape racing is over ,best you think again.

But surely the wet winter season coming up has to be taken into account - every year many meetings lost during that time - so why not have more meetings now while the weather is good - I would think that only a small percentage of horses are getting 'ready for Durban' - why not put on races for those lesser lights :S

I am sure that there will be as there is heaps of stake money and prestige to be won by racing in Durban.
