I thought there was a R2,500,000 restricted race JUST for THIs sale? But is ther only the one race now?One in three hundred chance of winning a pot of 2,500,000 racing against similar quality as against one in five hundred for a pot of 10 million and against the tip top book one catalogue.?? interesting expected value calculation!

Interesting thing is that horses don't run on paper.... They run on grass....

I am finding it interesting trying to read this sale and predict values, even trends.
But, as usual, I will stick my neck out I am of the opinion that there is a lot of value around, irrespective of the big incentive and that the big boys are all here.

Tonight I follow 5 of my selections
Lots 7,8,46,50,62.

Quite amazed at how little the Elusive Fort's sold for. Early days but his 2 year old that won with Sheehan in her second start over 1400 is one of my horses to follow and he had a first timer with LJ Erasmus that ran a cracking second earlier in the week on debut. That from only three runners. If it was a Klawervlei stallion you would be seeing Knowles and co sending out the word !

Oh, as for Klawevlei the boom sire Seventh Rock won the first two baby races in Gauteng and Cape Town and has not been on the board since. Louis or Craig let us know if you buy an Elusive Fort. I have sworn off owning horses but a small share cannot hurt.

H 100% I have a EF colt what a stunning animal and it can run as well ! (My trainer is raving about him and he has only been in for 2 months) Maybe great value for money babies and I dont think you can go wrong taking a share. Shrude buy because if he comes off as a stallion you will be smiling ! Best of luck !

Having a blast, weather has been very good thus far! The VA waterfront feels like another country, I'm amazed how organised everything is and how helpful the locals are. Truly magnificent city but equally expensive! Anyway we leave for durban tommorow and I just can't wait to get back for a nice hot mutton curry n rice! I'm gatvol of the mild food here lol

The sale was nicely up on last year, yet there was still good value to be had.
I am surprised that Harris thinks that the Elusive Forts did not sell well- I think that he was one of the successes of the sale thanks to some good looking stock, and the fortuitous appearance of good early runners. His average was over R100k, and 3 colts sold for R200k. These are all genuine prices, with no artificial ramping up. On a second year service fee of R5k, the breeders were generally happy. Buyers got good value, so a win- win all round.
Also good to see some of the top trainers showing an interest.
On the marketing front, given that the two significant runners were a week before the sale, there was no time for print, but the breeder/ trainer/ owner database received online promotional material within 30 minutes of Ronnie Sheehan's winner, as we had spotted this as a likely winner on the card based on her first run.
We have been pleasantly surprised at seeing 2yo winners, and thrilled at the way they run, showing a devastating turn of foot. These are horses with scope, and will get better over ground. Looking forward to some good 3yo performances next season.

Fantastic Sale! We were all treated like extremely valued players in the Industry. The Cape Sales team went to great lengths to see to us, we couldnt possibly eat any more, drinks flowed and in truth, I was a bit shocked at this, as we are so used to being taken for granted in the Industry. WELL DONE CTS !!!!

We bought the following for our new syndicate, being formed right now "TEN BAR SYNDICATE" :-
lots - 7 (50k) , 61 (40k) , 83 (120k) , 96 (60k) , 97 (20k) , 109 (20k) , 210 (60k) , 290 (70k).

Our Owners also bought for us, getting the following - lots 8 (70k), 46 (120k), 247 (40k) and 272 (150k)

We are very happy with our purchases ! There are shares available in the Ten Bar Syndicate, if interested please pm me.
