Hollywood Deduction Table - Reverting Back
11 years 2 months ago
Attention Hollywood Customers
With effect from today (20/03/2014) we have to revert to the ‘official’ deduction table approved by the KZN Gambling Board which is shown below.
This has come about as a result of a complaint to the KZNGB and we have been found to be in breach of the rules relating to the deduction table.
However, please remember that the starting price we use in determining the deduction will be the last Hollywood price prior to the scratching (as per our T&Cs):
Hollywood Starting Price
The starting price of a horse shall be the last fixed odds laid or displayed by Hollywood on that horse, prior to the start of the race. In the event of a late withdrawal, where no new betting is displayed before the start of the race, then the starting price shall be the last price displayed, subject to a deduction.

surely the discretion of deductions...ultimately lies with the concerned bookmaker.....if a bookmaker makes it a bonus type of incentive telling their clients that anything over 10/1 has no deductions..its surely their prerogrative..or in another way..tell their clients that in the event of over 10/1 we will have to apply the deduction...but a bonus will be added to your bet....there r many ways to skin a cat...comeon DEV...use your "praveen gordhan" skills...and how we find loop holes in the tax system...you and your legal team..can also go find a way out of this

Guys i do believe that Hollywood tries their level best to accomadate the punter. With that being said they have to first and foremost obey'' the gambling board rules...
But i would like to ask a question , if walk into a shop and the price of 2/1 is diaplyed and i wager a bet on that horse i get 5/2 as a stretch. So i take 5000/2000 and walk away. then i hear that number 10 has been scratched.Number 10 was displayed at 8/1 so i know that the punter would have received 10/1 when the bet was wagered. But why do i get a 15c deduction on my bet when it sould be 10c due to the price the bookamker was laying. Surely that has to be looked as as well. Obviously many boomakers wont bring that up withtheir respective gambling boards as he just recived an EXTRA 5% reduction in his risk for Nothing but i had to pay for it.
based on the same scenarion above the punter that has backed a 20/1 in the race would have received 25/1, he gets a 15c deduction ( should be no deduction ) but after the new betting is out his horse is still 20/1. I think thats totally wrong, can someone please advise me if im missing the point here or do i have a valid point ?

if bookies price up to 110..115%/race i am glad to pay deductions up to 5%....but when they bet upto 130 and 140% and beyond in some instances..its thievery.
another point...when we talk about betting to percentages we take it up to 10/1...after 10/1 ...it doesnt affect percentage betting....but if i must take a deduction..then surely all horses that are priced up to 20/1 need to be taken into consideration in order to know what % is being bet to...so if i take the 2nd scenario...then bookies are betting way beyond what they are saying...so there are 2 scenarios...do their betting correctly...and price horses better..before just willy nilly applying deductions...if you get to 120%...and there are still 5 horses with not much form ...then they must be priced up at 25/1 and better...not just stuck in at 20/1

following on from my earlier post...hypothetically take a 12 horse race....6 horses up to 10/1...and the other 6 between 11/1 and 20/1
...%BET in the race is for argument sake say 120%...NOW AT THE OFF.....the 6 horses priced up at 11/1 and beyond all get scrathched...i must take 5% FOR each of the 6 horses scratched if i backed the winner..but in actual effect the betting would have been exactly the same had the 6 horses not been entered in the first place..if the %'s are to be believed
