All due respect RP to shorten a first timer from 7/2 to 1/1 takes under 3K also as there are NO DOUBT that the horse is going to need further im sure your source has got this one completely wrong, far too often people claim to have heard from various sources when in fact they have never even spoken to the person,Anthony has been accused of the self same thing on numerous occasions, i guess it comes with the territory but believe me if it was him the horse would be a lot shorter and I believe that the price time of race will be closer to 2/1 or bigger...don't believe everything you hear...

That's not right Bud

I must say I don't have any issues with my trainers whether I phone them or visit them

The trainers I am involved with (Big and small yards) treat me the same - top notch (tu)

Totally agree - top stable to deal with in KZN ;) and I visit the stables very often and the trainer is always welcoming and takes time to spend with you to discuss the horse etc(tu)

I am rather lucky/blessed in that area. I am with a small yard and can pitch up anytime unannounced to visit my horses. I always know their well-being and am received openly every single time. When they are ready for a good run, I get told well before the horse is even nominated and I discuss with my trainer what he thinks a sensible amount to punt would be. If the prices on my horses do shorten, I am always able to get on first. I may not have the luxury of being with the big boys who churn out winner after winner, but for me, my horses are my pets and it means more to me to be able to visit and learn about them when I want to, as opposed to watching this animal race and having no connection to it at all. :?

Royal one thing you must bear in mind in SA the markets are weak and esp on first timers - on top of this everyone is entitled to bet as it is a free market so as the owner it is your perogitive to get on if you fancy your horse. Some owners are actually slow out the gates and then they expect the whole world to wait for them to have their 2 grand on. That really is dreamworld mentality cause on a first timer even the grooms 300 rand on a first timer can shorten it and if my granny decides to put a grand on and it shortens are you gonna blame the trainer. They don't control the market they only train the horse. Most of the time it is unrealistic in a free market and causes unnecessary blaming, It is also not rocket science for eg tomorrow Delpech is on GVZ and not riding for de kock ? so would you need to be a professor to work this one out no! what you sould be complaining about is our weak markets in SA open to loads of manipulation and actually quite a joke.
