As far as I am aware, Phumelela have not made any representation
to the ECGBB, which if they had would have required a public hearing,
So if they terminate the Tellytrack signal tomorrow as threatened, they
will be in breach of their licence conditions in the Eastern Cape.
In terms of clause 8(6) of the Racecourse Conditions of Licence, “The
television signal fees charged by the licensee (Phumelela) or its subsidiary
for a licensed bookmaker to received a television signal of ANY horseracing
shall be determined by the licensee but shall be subject to the prior written
approval of the ECGBB”.
Betting World in the Eastern Cape have already lost their Bookmaker licence
for serious transgressions, so it would be a pity to see Fairview racecourse
go the same way, but the Gambling Board in the Eastern Cape are very hard
on offenders.
I think similar conditions apply in Gauteng.

Just one silly question and I am sure the detail has been posted somewhere, when I put on my TV at home in future 239, will I be watching just local racing live track feed or just the same 239 that we have been watching for the last few years?

Amazing how many posters "dont watch TT" or "dont put a cent on horses" etc who have so much to say......
Anyway, to the real racing people, the ones who love the game....

I agree louis it's time to pop the corks after a worrying few weeks which potentially could have killed horse racing can u answer my question on home content?
Are we getting our dream of track feed or are we back to Ngong and Sweden?

I'm content - no real change for me - but I have to wonder what the plan is with giving the 'home viewer' an opportunity to watch international racing - will the 'home viewer' be offered that option and what would it entail (a separated decoder, subscription ???)
Also, I would have thought that the contribution from betting on international racing has taken a big knock - so does P feel that this contribution is negligible ? Or are they hoping to make up the shortfall from the 3% received from participating bookmakers - but does that not go to a separate 'revenue stream' - so in the end will stakes be affected :S
One question has been answered (239 will continue to provide the 'home user' with 'local' racing) but many questions remain (the most pressing at the moment would be 'will be see Meydan on 239 this coming Saturday' ?)

If the bookmakers win the case at ICASA then Tellytrack will be forced to revert back to the old format of Channel 239 (less of Clyde advertising a car and all of the International racing)

Yeah 100%, I wish they would do the draw for the car. Maybe Basel will make a decent car salesman.

Scotia, obviously the court case is the key. I guess that TT will win the case and then make the relevant announcements. I dont see much doom and gloom for us in the long term though.

Helsinki Stockholm Copenhagen who cares......the syndrome or what ever Phumelela hold us to is not nice.....the angst generated by short sighted decisions and gambling with the fate of the TT could have cost the industry dearly.....the blame shifting to other parties including Multichoice is not the way a listed company should have behaved......I do not think that it was ever Multichoice's intention to unload TT but with all the flack from the bookmaker spat that situation loomed large.....I'm grateful that they finally got it right but was it necessary to put us all under the cosh.....I think a Dale Carnegie course in how to win friends and influence people should be mandatorily for all at Phumelela managers/directors..... except for Clyde Basil....I would buy a car from him any day.....
