SCOTIA ON A DUBAI WEEKEND!

Good afternoon to the CLAN on what should be a great racing weekend [ an early post for scotia, lots of studying to get through].

Lucky is having a braai on Friday afternoon at the Vaal, but its a bit of a trek in 4 hours of traffic for old scotia to make a plan, but have asked him for the bottle of JWB that I would have consumed to be brought to the track at the weekend.

I must say the Forum has been very busy, with some excellent posts this week, and I hope you checked the early betting on the site for the Dubai meeting, as you are aware I have taken an early bet on Curlin and have no problem with the draw and it should win comfortably, but I do like the price of Sun Classique at 8/1!

Its Mrs.S' anniversary on sat 29th, so as a special treat I will be taking her to the big "T" for a romantic lunch "once a punter always a punter" 34yrs of married bliss and going strong, I put it down to me looking after myself "my body is my temple" and I have been feeding it the best of food and drink for many years, not sure what Mrs S' secret is? but it would appear to be working!

Enough of the soppy stuff and back to the track. its a nice card on Saturday and will be looking for some "hot info" to cover my expenses, in addition we have a night meeting from Greyville and the cherry on the top is the Dubai World Cup.

The main race on Saturday is the Carodoc Gold Cup and this WISE SON, will be using his LONG DOLLAR to act like a PACIFIC WARRIOR and use my PACIFIC CHARM to try and win enough for a trip from PARIS TO PEKING? I am sure at the table we will have HAPPY TALK and remember SANTA only comes once a year, and with a bit luck will be taking Mrs S back to my MATO GROSSO, to show her my prize "MEMBRADO", which is a sure winner!

Good punting and may your GOD be with you.

Good morning to the CLAN, thought I would throw in another post on the big day!

This is not in connection with the anniversary, its due to my evening last night, but I also wanted to touch on a few posts on the Forum.

Very sad news on Mr Jaffee and condolences to his wife and family, in addition a very good post from Andrew Fortune and we continue to wish him strength.

The post I want to touch on is "have we made mistakes while punting" had this in mind last night, so the story goes as follows.

Friday lunch went to see a friend [ wealthy ] does not have to work for a living,, but our conversation very depressing re: current situation in S.A. crime, politics etc. probably the "NORM"?

However every Friday night [ barring functions ] I meet another friend from 5.00 to 7.00 where we drink as many doubles as possible and treat ourselves to a nice meal.

Lets call him "easygoer", after the American horse.

I always arrive before 5.00 and he is always late, normally 2 doubles, but I ask on his arrival Howzit, reply "never been better",[ I am aware that one of his delivery trucks was stolen on Thursday, roof ripped off and he spend an entire day on calls/police/tracker/insurance], an incident that would have driven "me" crazy, but no sweat for "easygoer".

Another double and he says I fancy Fortune to win the last, I ask where is he riding and what is he riding? as I don't normally punt on a Friday, he answers "no idea" to both questions!

He phones the bookie "what's the Fortune mount in the last"? I ask "did you take a bet"? "no, "I am owe the bookie a few bob [ plenty in fact]", so what's it called? "Its a short name, Santa or Satin", I say Santa is running on Saturday, so it must be Satin,. "I am going to have a tote bet" he says," I did not know you use the tote"? "Had a couple of bob in the account and put it on cuckoo's horse, now I have a couple of grand"!

He shows me his new phone, where he can watch Tellytrack and then phones the tote "hello my dear, can I have a grand on Fortune on the last, I have no idea on the entire conversation, but the last race was not the 9th or the 8th, but it was confirmed that the last was the 7th and he had a grand on number 2. I asked, "did she confirm that the horse was number 2?" no she does not have the card.

I am more worried than "easygoer" and insists that he phones a friend and confirm the number, but he is sure its 2, he eventually concedes and phones to establish that its number 1, so phones back and changes the bet and we watch it winning on his phone.

Then he says, he thinks he has won the pick6? I ask "why", well I had a banker in the first, plus a couple in the other legs and a couple of fields and Fortune in the last?

Well I wont go into detail with my conversation, however I did question that if he was going into the last leg of the pick6 for example 10,000/200 or whatever?, why would he put a grand on a money on shot? I have no idea of the outcome and neither does "easygoer", but I can assure you, it will work out for the man.

We also took some lottery tickets last night for the carryover and he just phoned to tell me that he has lost his tickets and is going back to the pub and spar.

The bottom line: the man is a "KING"! and I would love his outlook in life, if we had more people like "easygoer" LIFE would be so much more easier?.
