In the UK the fixtures are handed out a year in advance, the new owners of great leighs missed the deadline and have nearly 2 years to wait to get a fixture

Sometimes July 2014 will only have 12 runners, that will be sad (td)

I am looking forward to us racing on the polytrack. Gives horses another option and we should stop losing meetings. They can be moved onto the poly. I think it is a huge plus. Not every track in the world is the same and it might take some change in riding/racing styles but that's racing. You don't ride/race the same way at Epsom as you do at Chester for instance. The run in is plenty long enough and further than many tracks around the world. As I said I cannot wait for it to open. I (and owners I am sure) hate a meeting being abandoned and this track could solve those problems. Naresh, July 2014 with 12 runners, where did you get that? I think the 1st meeting is planned for the 13th June but there will be proper races on there before that to get everyone more used to the new course.

Mr Eudey, I do know that the final field for the July 2014 will consist of 16 runners, see my post below which I posted about 2 months ago before Gold Circle had their press release (Maybe they copied my idea :D). As you would have read I said "sometimes" there will be only 12 runners, if things dont go according to plan. Always nice to have a contingency plan "B" if things do go awry. I hope for one this does not happen, as I love the game of horseracing and try to be optimistic. At the moment the Greyville 1900 only has 12 runners, Dunford couple years of ago ran 5th in this race, would not have got a run with the new track and system of getting into the July. Name the Key, who was trained by the late Bertie Hayden, ran 4th or 5th in the Greyville 1900, and still got a run in the July. Sometimes you need sentimental runners in the final field in the July to make it more exciting, for instance with Name the Key. Look at Gifted for Glory, who is an emergency runner in the Greyville 1900, its dam Badgers Gift, ran in the July, would have been nice if it could get a run in the 1900, and qualified, could have been another Dunford for Mr Bass. Its nominated , 2 days later, for a Pinnacle Plate which is to be run over 1450m. Surely the program should have changed, and made this pinnacle plate over a longer distance for the runners that couldnt get a run in the Greyville 1900.

With only 16 runners in the July this year, getting into the final field is going to be hard. At the moment these runners if nominated with surely get a run,

The first five past the Met 2014

1. Hill Fifty Four
2. Yorker
3. Punta Arenas
4. Whiteline Fever
5. Master of my Fate

The first two past the Cape Derby

1. Legislate
2. Captain America

The 3yo classic winners in Gauteng will almost certainly get a run unless you pull a Tellina

8. Winner of Gauteng Guineas
9. Winner of SA Classsic
10. Winner of SA Derby

Then the 3yo classic winners in Natal if its not Captain America or Legislate. Whichever horse upsets the applecart will surely get in.

11. Winner of KZN Guineas
12. Winner of Daily News 200

Races for older horses and 3yo's

Winner of the Greyville 1900 will get in according to statistics

13. Winner of Greyville 1900

Winner of Champions Cup Trial will get in according to statistics

14. Winner of Champions Cup Trial

Winner of the big race open to all horses in Gauteng at the end of Gauteng season sure to make it

15. Winner of Presidents Champion Challenge

The Winner of the Gold Circle Challenge if the first five past the Met don't win it or the winner of the 3yo's classic winners don't win it.

16. Winner of Gold Circle Challenge

The above list does not include winners for any of the 3yo Classic fillies winners. The Woolavington winner being the obvious.

The Jubilee Handicap winner in Gauteng in June normally gets a run. Used as a prep run for the July for runners that are based in Gauteng. Its not included in the list.

They are going to be lots of owners and trainers unhappy. Of all the older horses Tellina really needs another Grade 1 victory to get in or any of the races mention or he will be unlucky.

The only way for places to open up is for same horse wins different features so the runner up can get in. Eyeofthetiger third in the Daily News won the July. Numerous runners have had runs before the July to be primed for the big day. Unfortunately now you need to be primed to win a big race to get in the July. Poor Arion ran a cracker in a Grade 1 needs to win the Daily News to get in as I see the KZN Guineas to short. Lots of 3yo's will instead run in the Greyville 1900 or Champions Cup Trial, mark my word.

Just was showing respect to you has I respect your views. Craig its not "think" it should be "know so" be more optimistic :D

These reserve runners, will it still able to get a run up till the 9am on that Friday before the July if there are any scratchings ? Or will it be on that Sunday before the July, has betting opens on the Tote Monday morning. I do like to see it on that Friday but its going to create alot of problems for the once year punters.
