Hoender, you can see Gert Smal's hand in the way the Stormers are playing in their last few games. (with 15+ players injured) They have scored more tries in the last 3 & 4 games than they scored all season last year.
Mallet is also assisting Smal (on the quiet) to find the balance between defence & attack. Great news for the Stormers is that Etzebeth is almost ready. Another week or 2. We need the Stormers, Lions & Cheetahs to help the Sharks (Bulls

By and large a great weekend for SA teams...seems that the balance between attack and defence much better (we didn't kick everything away and hope to live off scraps and the odd penalty...) and size advantage of our players counted...

The two results that really surprised me were the Sharks and the Stormers - the Sharks game could have gone either way (but of course a fantastic effort considering that they played with 14 men for most of the game - and 13 for 10 minutes :
) - but the Stormers to me was the biggest upset of the weekend - not that they won, but the way they won - they totally out-jumped, out-scrummed and out-defended the Force - as OR says - big improvement visible now that Smal is around.
The Cheetahs were lucky to win - how anyone could not have spotted a pass (leading to the try) that was at least 5 metres forward is beyond me - and in general I can't understand how that referee can be in charge of a school match, let alone a Super 15 match (the Cheetahs cleverly conned a few penalties out of him at scrum-time, by just retreating as soon as the 'set' call came) - to be fair the Brumbies looked asleep for most of the game (maybe the travel factor :S), but don't be surprised to see a totally different performance from them this weekend against the Bulls.
As for the Lions, they were in the game for 40 minutes, only to fade badly in the 2nd half

Ref's in general are pathetic now days and seem to be getting worse. I see it every weekend at school level and on TV.
This kicking of a ball in the oppositions 22 is an every day occurance and is creeping in more and more. You cant kick a try !!
School boy rugby is now fast becoming a proffesional sport and is leading to the kids becoming more and more selfish and trying to catch shine at every turn. Overlaps being ingnored and going on your own seems to be the norm.
Where were the days of a ball going through the hands from the scrumhalf to the wing ? Long gone ! Crash ball on crash ball. Kak rugby !
A wing is a position that means very little now days and rugby is heading towards a game of 15 loose forwards on the field.
Lets not even talk about all the politics and crap as well. I will never stop.

Matfield and Burger may be experienced but surely when you building up to a world cup you look at youth??
