Press release David Thiselton

The unbeaten Australian-bred filly Majmu has drawn favourably in the Gr 1 Allan Robertson Championship over 1200m at Scottsville on Saturday and is going to be hard to beat, although she faces a stronger field than she did when slamming them by 8,25 lengths in the Gr2 SA Fillies Nursery.

The potentially brilliant daughter of Redoute’s Choice is still learning and has been slow away twice, so it will be interesting to see how she handles the initial downhill section. However, when she does get going her power is unmistakeable and she will be tough to peg back coming up the hill.

Rich Girl is also an Australian-bred and represents Charles Laird, who has a tremendous Gr 1 record at this meeting. She is an exciting filly in the making, having pulverised them over 1000m and 1100m in her last two starts, including a Gr 3. She has cracked a tough draw, but has plenty of pace and possesses a strong kick too.

Rosier is unbeaten in three, including a Gr 2 over course and distance, and her father Kildonan still holds the 1200m course record here. She is a fighter and will be right there.

Balkan has won her last two by six lengths and five lengths respectively and the form looks strong, so she will also be a threat.

Alborean Sea won on debut and, although held on form lines by Balkan, should improve further coming from the Mike de Kock yard. She has a favourable draw.

Shahrasal has a lot to do on form lines, but won cosily over the Scottsville 1400 last time and is another likely improver from the De Kock yard. She is favourably drawn and strikes as a type that will always enjoy Scottsville.

Cotton Candy was beaten five lengths by Balkan last time out over 1100m, but she is 2kg better off and there is a reversal in draw fortunes too. There is not much between her and Rosier on Fairview 1200m form.

Arria was a bit disappointing when beaten 2,25 lengths by Rosier over course and distance last time out in a Gr 2, but she probably needed the run. She is well regarded, but has a very tough draw.

Flying Loot was beaten only two lengths by the talented colt Guiness on debut and the rest of the field were strung out like the washing, which usually indicates good form. However, she also has a tough draw.

Miss Argentina won easily second time out. The form is a bit muddling, but she comes from a yard that improves them with each run, so she is one of the dark horses.

Lady Ky is an Australian-bred, who has improved with blinkers. She was only beaten 0,75 lengths by Rosier in a Gr 2 over course and distance last time out, but is now 2kg worse off.

Flame Cat will try all the way to the line, but she might be a bit outgunned and would likely prefer shorter.

Millenium Reign beat Flame Cat in her penultimate start over 1200m, but has more than ten lengths to find with Majmu.

One Fine Day was beaten narrowly by the SA Fillies Nursery runner up Victoria Young on debut, so although she was a facile winner next time out she still has a lot to find with Majmu on the bare form.

Seven Whispers is by Seventh Rock, who won the Gr 1 Medallion over this course and distance as a two-year-old. She won easily on debut at The Vaal, but it was a weak event and she will need to improve.

Whistling Wonder won on debut, but on form lines since then looks to have a very tough task.

Whiteline Fever is indeed the most surprising name in all these fields. For me anyway.

And Striker takes the ride??? Surely he could have jumped onto any of the 'sprinters'?

Mmmmmm something to ponder about

Via Africa has drawn perfectly in the defence of her Gr 1 SA Fillies Sprint crown and is going to be hard to beat over the Scottsville 1200m on Saturday.

The brilliant four-year-old daughter of Var tends to hang to the right, so the draw of one against the far rail will suit her, and furthermore, the trends at Scottsville favour low draws. Last year Via Africa jumped from draw five and the second and third placed horses, Festival Of Fire and Princess Victoria, were drawn one and four respectively.

All Is Secret is a horse that has the potential to upset, as she proved last year when beating the mighty What A Winter in the Gr 1 Mercury Sprint over 1200m at Clairwood. She has drawn well and should be close to her peak having had two outings since an enforced layoff due to a spider bite.

Schiffer’s last run in the Gr 1 Computaform Sprint can be ignored as nothing went right for her. She has drawn quite high but like all the best progeny of Var, she has plenty of early speed and the ability to kick in the final 400m.

Jet Aglow is an interesting runner as a powerful galloper who prefers further, but she has drawn high.

Jet Supreme also stays further, but proved in her one length fourth behind the talented Jet Belle in the Gr 3 weight-for-age Poinsettia over 1200m at Clairwood that she is effective over this trip, so is interesting with Weichong Marwing up.

However, Justin Snaith’s stable jockey Richard Fourie is aboard Varikate, who proved last time at Greyville over 1000m that her merit rating is all wrong. She is the dark horse.

Miss October has the speed to be in the front line, but has done well over this trip before, so is a very interesting raider from high altitude.

Reflective Image was a bit outpaced in the Poinsettia, so will appreciate this tougher track as she beat Jet Belle when winning the Gr 2 Sceptre Stakes over the exacting Kenilworth 1200m.

Honorine has had her problems, but won the Gr 2 Camellia Stakes with second time blinkers last time out and displayed a strong late kick. She might be better than her 98 merit rating suggests, but on the downside she has drawn high.

Jackodore might have the beating of Honorine on a line through Tiger Quest. She has been campaigned with success over further on the sand this year, but Tarry has a fine ability to freshen a horse up, so she will likely put up a good performance from a fair draw.

She’s A Stunner finished third in this race two years ago, two lengths behind Ebony Flyer. She is favourably drawn, but finished more than ten lengths back last year and needs a sudden form return.

Kinematic Countess is one of the most under-rated sprinters in the country. The Gr 3 Sycamore Sprint winner packs a powerful finish and should be running on well. This is her first run outside of the Highveld and has a lot to do at the weights from a tough draw, but is ultra-consistent.

The improved Choir Maiden is course and distance suited and could sneak a place.

Fly By Night is likely not far off the best and as a Jet Master should be improving in her four-year-old year.

Tiger Quest is an improving three-year-old with plenty of early pace and can be dangerous considering she didn’t settle well when second in the Camellia last time out.

King’s Temptress can’t be fancied on current form.
