I agree - for small punters that do no 'play against themselves' as suggested by rob faux- I think taking into account the big discrepancies prevailing at the moment, makes it a no-brainer

I will throw something into the ring that the operators forgot - The Mystery bets of the 90's - They did not take off because Gambling is about taking a calculated risk for at perceived reward - If that reward is a MYSTERY the punter puts his cash in his pocket - I like to buy a price not a dream/nightmare - Also the removal of the scroll took away the quick option to assess tote vs fixed odds which often swayed my bets - I agree with Rob that the only reasonable way foward is an exchange
I remember often putting a big place bet on early with the tote - My horse would open at 60c a place(in real terms it was a even money shot to earn - punters would see this and back the horses more fancied by the books as their prices were inflated - I'd get 3-1 at the off - I would not try that now as the Aussie(WHERE HAS HE GONE SUDDENLY?) could make me weep
