Prize Money?

Hi guys, I wondered if there are any plans for future prize money
re-structuring?

The reason I ask is it seems (at least the 'big' tracks), that the prize money for maidens is very reasonable - but maybe a little room for improvement.

As is the money for Group races 200k+.

However, imo there is room for some improvement within graduation stakes, and handicaps.

i.e R70,000 maiden - R80,000 Graduation at the mo would change to R80k - 100k.

So that the difference between the opening level to the next is 20% not the 11% or so that it is at the moment.

Obviously - once you move to the in-between level, Good but not group class - the differece would be between say, 10% - 40% = R110k - R140k.

What are the clans thoughts on these matters?

Respectfully, Jim.

Morning guys, with 50 views and no responses - does that mean I am out of order - lol!

It's just a thought, what are yours? I'm sure I've read somewhere that the RA have intimated the next movement in Stakes, will be on the average racer - which , let's face it, is what the majority of our Horses are.

So what kind of levels would you like to see them move too?

I have heard some say that a win should be about One years keep - which dependant on your trainer can be upwards of R60K(+).

So come on chaps - what say you?

Respectfully, Jim

Hi Jim, I think all us owners out there would welcome higher prize money. And yes I think a years keep for a winning maiden race is what we would like to see.

You are right, after winning a maiden race in Joburg, the stake's don't go up much at all at the next levels. In fact, quite often 1 time winners are racing for less than a maiden stake - take yesterdays meeiting at Turffontein, a few of their races were for K50 & K60 ( not maiden races either )

Jamster, what you say above is correct. you have over 100 readings on this topic, & I'm the only bloody person to answer to you ( twice )

I had a bookmaker query recently & the responce was extremely poor..... & I wasn't told by anyone if I was correct or in the wrong. Half the time we are looking for answers..... but it appears that most on this site are READERS only.

get off your butts & participate ! don't just read.

LOL! Elvis.

I'm not alone - so glad that you haven't left the building mate.

Well now that 'I'm all shook up' - I can go back to 'Heartbreak Hotel', before this threads 'return to sender'!

Cheers, Jim.

The stakes agreement holds the key to the future, imo, especially (but not just for) owners. The knock on effect in terms of quality higher stakes would bring would be seen in terms of betting turnover and attendances, media interest, sales, auctions and so on.

I've banged the drum about race sponsorship in "P" land which is virtually non existant. Even so, I believe any revenue from race sponsorship would go to P's bottom line rather than increased stakes though that was hearsay and I would be happy, no make that delighted ,to hear otherwise. Makes it all the stranger that we have the majority of Gauteng races named after Computaform, the RA and the Soccer 6 doesn't it?

Also, Jim, out of interest, whats happening in England? saw a post from one of the clan over there that said a recent meeting was under threat due to low stakes.

Well Chris..the clocks went forward and with it the weather has improved. Last week the meeting at Yarmouth was called off because off the small prize money. Trainers, owners and jockeys stuck together. Wish the public here would do the same and stop this tax crazed government from bankcrupting us.
