Ok but we talking about rating horses for races that have not run
We not talking about discerning a race that is published.

There has to be some sort of guide for the future. Some benchmark. Then the fun starts

I agree about the fun...my biggest win was in 1991 with a horse called la fabulous cape met..
horse slung in the weights ..was a certainty on the weights
but I also knew that in its 3 previous runs was nothing but to have it set up for the met
good memories winnings went a long way in those days...Easy I'm debating with you..but I also know you are a shrewdie and good for you when u spot something

like I say this is about rating horses before they are nominated and after they run.

I rate Mustaqeem at 125 and util it runs no one can prove me wrong.

Thats the beauty of this sport. BUT to allow horses to win races "up front" to make it easier for owners is bollocks.

MR and handicapping is here to stay, better learn how to work with it.

WHY do so many jockeys ease down in the UK and try and win by small margins?

Sucker,

Im no shrewdie.....its there for all to see. Like I said I LOVE the MR system. For me its opened up so many winning opportunities. If I have time I find winners at all sorts of prices. This comes from TRUSTING the MR 85% of the time and using my calluses and eyes for the balance.

As I said for me I make money in handicaps and lucky for me MOST races in SA are handicaps.

My take is that merit ratings must be used as a guide not the alpha and the omega
Friday @ Farview Easy Game was up to 10.5 kg worse with some horse he ran against before and he still won.
The other day on the Vaal Burgundy Rose from Leon Eramus was also way out in the weights but still won with a price of 14/1

Yeah. Clearly Shes A Giver is not a Merit Rated 100 and subsequently is now a 95.

A question to the team.

How is MR done in UK for instance.

is it done the same way here as its done there?

I mean by individuals or by a panel and more importantly is it done by the same panel.

The reason I ask all these questions if the UK can work this system and remembering they have dozens of courses then surely it would be easier to implement in SA , as we have just so fewer less courses .

The reason I bring in the number of courses is that on each racecourse there are many more variables to take into account and that should make rating a horse even more trickier.

Plated races have far proved that MR IS NOT WORKING, or if looked from a different angle, then MR, is a form of manipulation by the connections and hence contributing to the lopsidedness of the system.

And all this falls straight on the powers that be that police our racing.

THEY SHOULD BE IMPLEMENTING THE RULES AND IN AND OUT PERFORMANCES SHOULD BE REGULATED MORE STRINGENTLY AND IF THIS IS DONE THEN THE SYSTEM HAS A CHANCE OF WORKING.AS IT STANDS DONT SHOOT THE SHERRIF(MERIT RATING), SHOOT THE MESSENGER(POWERS THAT BE) WHO ARE NOT AIDING THE SYSTEM

or the run was important to bring her rating down?
