Whyte a Jockey.....................was going for 14th title in a row......................(tu)

S.A. Jockey Dougie Whyte was attempting to win his 14th consecutive title in H.K. since 2OOO-2OO1, however it was sadly curtailed by a 3 day suspension he picked up for careless riding when he was found to have taken up the running of TRAVEL MASTER at the 9OOmt mark when riding DO YOU GET IT in the Fortune Room Handicap.

This means that jockey Zac Purton will be crowned Champion Jockey for the 1st time.It also saw an end to S.A.jockey's domination from the 1994/1995 title won by Tony Cruz, all further jockey's titles went to S.A riders until Dougie picked up that ban and dashed his hopes for a straight 14th consecutive title in H.K.

I wonder if Basil Marcus did as well or even better in his titles won in H.K.:S

He is 20 behind Purton and 4 behind Moreira so not quite sure what he was in line to wrap up...........
Karis Teetan is in 4th place on 48 winners which is 14 more than Richard Fourie rode last year. A phenomenal effort.

With the season ending 6th July at Sha-Tin, it has become impossible mathematically for Dougie Whyte to make up the leeway on OZ jockey Zac Purton, with Dougie only due back to ride on the last day of the season. Or even pip J.Moreira into 2nd place now it seems.

I remember some punters here calling him mat whyte because he was so dull in a finish..he has come a long way since those days

Karis has done remarkably well and done the SAJA proud (tu) but in fairness to Richard he never really settled well in HK and neither did his family, had he done so he would have given Doug ,Zac and co a HUGE run for their money, he is without a doubt a world class rider but their loss is our gain and i for one would like to see him stay here indefinitely as a SA title for him imo is a formality ....
