Polytrack very popular

A hour to go before scratchings close for the meeting of the 23rd at Greyville on the polytrack and already 135 acceptors for 8 races. Trainers, jockeys and horses especially must be enjoying the surface and the way the horses are pulling up after their races.

Over 180 acceptors at 11am. 2 races being split. At least it looks like everyone is enjoying the track. That is what makes me happy.

Glad you are happy Craig. From a punting point of view, its horse shit.

This 'polytrack thing' intrigues me........
I suspect we may be looking at a variation on an old theme except that instead of 'horses for courses' Greyville has created a 'course for horses' - the horses being largely the local low MR battlers whose limited ability seems challenged only by their trainers themselves.
Unless you find courses such as Lingfield, Wolverhampton & Southwell the pinnacle of racing excitement then I can't see Greyville being any better. Certainly the only indisputable similarity seems to be in the quality of horse that races at all of the aforementioned centres. In a word - drek.
Couple of points to ponder; The new course does not extend beyond 2400 metres so genuine staying races look set to quietly disappear from Durban almost altogether as Scottsville traditionally hosts only very, very few of them in any given year. The potential impact of this development seems to have escaped just about everybody in this centre. Does nobody see any connection between the COMPLETE ABSENCE of a local horse from the recent July and the fact that they cater primarily for poorly performing local animals who seem to battle to win beyond a mile against any visiting opposition of above average quality?

What was wrong with today's meeting? There was maybe 2 overall surprises (only 1 in the pick 6 races) and the rest when looking back were easy enough to pick.
I think the poly will be a great place to make money.
PS - Craig, I believe a certain horse in your stable may enjoy the poly.

Garrick, are you sure that is not just Pirates under another name?
Surely a track that runs consistently and is good on the horses should be applauded or is backing/finding a 29/1 outsider every now and then more important. Most of the favourites won or ran places. Horses are winning from the front, back, coming from wide etc. Seems a very fair track. What happened to the horse comes 1st? Richie hope he enjoys it. I cannot see why not.

Garrick, perhaps you are a purist, but as a punter I get just as much enjoyment from studying an MR68 F&M handicap and watching them race as watching the Durban July. In fact if this years July is anything to go on....Iperhaps the mediocre horses scrapping for a stake cheque is preferable.
