Well done to the Shams and everyone else
10 years 10 months ago
The annual Christmas in July charity event held this past weekend at Fairview Racecourse helped raise R40 000 for charity. The beneficiary for this year’s event was the Uitenhage Child and Family Welfare Society.
Mark and Dorrie Sham of Sham Racing, contributed largely to the success of the event by rounding up their family, friends and donating R40 000 to this worthy cause. Access Racing, also joined in on the spirit of selflessness this Mandela month and provided all meals and snacks for children at no cost.
To ensure that the money raised serviced needs of the children, Fairview staff purchased blankets, floor-mats, towels, toiletries and more for Uitenhage Child and Family Welfare Society. The remaining balance will go towards providing food to the crèche on a monthly basis.
Well known socialite, and board member from the Uitenhage Child and Family Welfare Society, Theo Klaas, said “We are overwhelmed and extremely grateful for the hospitality extended to the children and the very generous donation from the racing fraternity. The day was a huge success and as always, Fairview Racecourse went all out to ensure an amazing event.”
Launched in 2013, Christmas in July is an annual event held in July where Fairview Racecourse contributes to Mandela month by hosting a charity day to help raise funds for local charities. Last year, children from the MTR Smit Home benefited and this year 70 pre-primary children from the Uitenhage Child and Family Welfare Society were the recipients of this goodwill.

A very worthy thread Bob... well done to everyone who contributed to the day.
I am only a little concerned that, if memory serves me right, the Shams said they had to step in to save the day. A shame that action was needed but just another big thumbs up for them, the "good" they often seem to do reflects extremely well on them. I was fortunate enough to catch a few snippets on the tv that day and there were plenty smiles going round on the kid's faces, they can get no better reward for their efforts than that.
The implication was that ABC's Dave "Scotia" was also involved, believing that to be true then hat off and nod of acknowledgement in your direction too Dave, well done sir.
