What I like about the island is the interest in horse racing from the barman to the taxi driver to the guy selling a boat trip, he gave me his race card " TURF" a superb publication and I will study tonight but with the all inclusive bar could be a problem, I came 2nd in the karaoke last night!

My trip to the racing was something special the same as everything on the Island, from the accomodation, food, people, weather, entertainment, views etc, its all been 5 star.
I would like to give a special thanks to Corrinne who arranged for us to visit the various boxes and introduced us to Benoit Halbwachs (GM), the president Gilbert Merven and of course Shan Ip ( who invited me for a television interview) on my views on racing.
I will copy a few pics of the days events but would have to say the experience reminded me of Turffontien about 15 yrs ago, all the members, owners wear suits and ties and trust me it's hot even if its regarded as winter, the stands, parade ring is packed with punters taking bets and bookie stands almost getting knocked over for the best price.
It is not a modern facility like the big T but the atmosphere and enthusiasm is fantastic.
When the winners get led in by the winning connection you hear a cheer from the crowd that matches any July winner.
We were fortunate that Corrinne arranged a tour of the Stipes room after an incident packed 2nd race where I had a decent bet on the winning favourite.
The race had a jockey fall and 4 jocks where called in to explain the incident and watching the race from various positions the result stood and I would have to commend the Stipes on the professional way and manner they reached their conclusion.
We visited the parade ring where we met the Maingards and we also visited the jockey room, weighing room where it was good to see Mark Neisius and Johnny G again.
A visit to the photo finish and commentary room was also arranged to end the racing experience and I would again thank Michel for giving us the opportunity to experience Mauritius racing and their special racing vibe that I would love to bottle and bring back to SA to inject into our racetracks.
Ps
Have to get to breakfast and enjoy this lifestyle and hospitality of a wonderful Island
The Scott's
Note! If you need a financial injection to take you to the Island have a few rands/rupees on Awesome Power next time out.
