I was sitting with my wife watching UK racing tonight. She said she doesnt like UK racing ! Huh, why I asked ? She said the poor horses run so far and when leading by 8 lengths the jockey is still hitting the poor animal. What must the poor horse still do to win ? Well, I said, I believe the jock just gets into a rhythm and maintains it to the winning post. Not good enough she said, I dont like it and stormed off.
Got me to thinking, has she a valid point or not ?

That type of attitude is surely grounds for divorce, I would certainly have her in front of the HRA

In a lot of big races in the uk you have to earn a place in the race. That's my only explanation (I think I could be wrong)

Its definitely not the quality been not up too scratch. Maybe Bob can provide the correct answer.

There far more options for horses in Europe, they don`t need to pitch up for every race like they do in South Africa

as dave said whats the point in turning up for a run, when on form you have no chance of competing in Group1s, there are plenty of grade2,3 listed and very high prizemoney hcps

plus O`brien, gosden ,Stoute etc will flood the entries with 5 or 6 each that are all good enough to win the race and place so why nominate horses against them?

Look at Zambucca hes pitched up for a few races finished 5th 3 times earned a pittance and probably ruined the rest of his season.

Chicken South Africa do have meetings like this, but instead of having spreading the meetings out with 6 race cards they have 12 race cards (JULY,MET,CHAMPS DAY ETC )

It is worthy of note that the Knavesmire was at one point the site of public executions in York. Jockeys in particular should be made aware of this.

That was impressive although looking for gaps. From a 100/1 winner of the same race a couple seasons ago to being one of the best sprinters around during his lifetime. Devastating turn of foot.
