I could not agree more - You can't give someone such a wage and expect them to be happy(I know they get "free housing" etc) but how can R300 (R50 a DAY if they work six per week) be fair . Racing must clean up this mess quick before the politicians they are courting turn out to be the Undertakers we did not see coming!

We have box owners, trainers, media reps ,media wannabes.trainers ,guys that know how this or that is working in the morning -Take your pick

How do box owners and the media know this ?

You think they would say nowt?

Look I don't know how my domestic worker lives but what I do know is I pay her R30 an hour (she only works one morning a week for me) How does a trainer pay R300 a week to a groom and still sleep at night? That, if true, is disgusting and exploitative.

MR H

How do the trainers that strike deals pay staff ?

Sorry but if trainers can't afford to pay grooms more there is something mum and dad about the game.

Wages are a cost , that cost should be passed onto owners , if we can't afford to pay more we shouldn't own horses

At a time when we are trying to attract high flyers with new money into the game and the exposure of the bottom of the ladder must make it uncomfortable for all in racing

Fact is nothing will help racing if it is not cleansed from the top down . You cannot expect new money if new money will just be "stolen" from the people in the know. It happens in brood daylight so let me take out the " " and call it what it is STOLEN

I for one do not invest in something that I do not trust and where every piece of the puzzle do not work together in unity for a better tomorrow.. there will always be grooms, owners , trainers, media wannabies, etc and some like to complain about not getting the same chances , others stop complaining and DO something about their lives

... but without RESPECT and mutual unity for a better tomorrow for South Africa, the racing industry or any other industry you would like to put under a magnifying glass ... it simply will not work and the pieces will slowly come apart...

Racing seems to be verging on the edge of a cliff with regular monotony at the moment..........comforting to know our industry is being so well run!!!!

The swiftest way to kill Racing is with a Union coming in on the back of a Government that needs a scapegoat for its failings - Be careful of the grooms (I and many others warned years ago that when this impoverished Giant awoke the Champagne and Caviar days of Racing would be over)

Reality is that the grooms are employed by Trainers and not by PGL Or NHA or RA etc.
Just as we have good and bad Trainers, so too do we have good and bad, in terms of treatment of our teams.
Unfortunately, we will all be tarnished with the same brush because of a few arseholes. And Racing will suffer.
Get rid of the rubbish who treat their staff with disrespect, I say. I have had enough of looking at filthy, unkempt yards and grooms who work in rags. And I refuse to take the blame for these arseholes who call themselves Trainers and I do not see why the Operators or anyone else should either.
Pinpoint the bad employers, get rid of them, so that the rest of us can get on with our jobs, respectfully and properly.

Thanks Louis

Would have to say that your grooms always look superb plus Tarry, Snaith come to mind and it is unfair to tarnish and industry due to a few bad apples

Quick Quote from one of the trainers on Sat morning"get so upset when my grooms don't pitch up for work". Then he said "And they upset me so much when they are at work".
We all packed up laughing. :cheer:

Surely they are not happy grooms?

Not acusing any trainer here, but in any business,if your employees are happy, you get results
Bottom line is simple;
Employer put in an extra effort/go the extra mile
Your workers will WANT to work for you
That will get you the results you desire
