The Trainers allowing this should definitely be sorted out ...They cant say they don't know about these poor living conditions...Definitely not fair on the grooms and other trainers that treat there staff with respect.

I agree, if they can't afford to pay their grooms a proper living wage then they shouldn't be training
Owning racehorses is a priveledge, pass the cost on to owners
If you can't afford to pay the costs so be it, an industry that is so extravagant when it comes to money should not have shit on it's hooves

headlines in Business section's front page yesterday about this in Cape Times.
greaaaaat for publicity. One of the reasons why SAF cannot and dare not embark on dog racing any time soon...management skills and then policing systems just not up to standard.

100% If certain people can let humans, who can talk, live in such atrocious conditions what chance will dogs have?

fact is: they don't give a shit about the grooms....until the grooms form a union that will unify and protect them their conditions will never change....

Many grooms are unionized. Just got out of a wage negotiation meeting with them a few hours ago. Not helping dog racing people that 2 greyhounds have been found in the sea off Durban in the last few weeks. Rescuers surmising that they were thrown into the sea to drown, possibly after not being good enough for the illegal dog racing going on.

you just have read mdk article about the culture of non payment in the racing industry and this disease is at the root of most of the failings in the industry..no other industry iv been involved in works like the racing industry and the domino effect of non payers cripples many facets of it..i know of one trainer who is so smug about it that he has stuffed the tba and its breeders around for decades by buying horses with no buyers and then sending cheques long after the sale and telling them to split it amongst the stud farms he bought horses from then the next time he was refused a buyers card he threw up such a storm of abuse that the head of the tba gave him credit for that sale....and this prick still struts around like nothing is wrong ....until these non payers if they owners trainers whoever are thrown out the game it will never go forward...iv heard that certain trainers want to have a minimum trainers charge set and why because then the good payers will negate the slow and bad ones ...im sure some vets work like this as well...nice hey so the good payers get punished...

This paints racing in the worst possible light. Those responsible should be charged with bringing racing into disrepute and then thrown out. No balls from those in charge

It is too late to take anything out of it - The damage has been done -
The grooms (the Giant- without their cheap labour there would be no Racing) should have been treated with respect years ago and this would not have happened- You cannot have people living like pigs when the horse they look after cost R600 000 and they who look after it should earn R30 a day? It was only a matter of time before they found a voice -
