what was so great about the ride by hughes, apart from the commentator going dilly about how great it was...i dont know the race, was the horse in question under sufferance..a no hoper in the race..they went quick and hughes picked them off....at the 400 all the horses bar the winner was being pushed along(sign that the went too fast)...that clip doesnt tell me how great a rider hughes is....BUT when we see 1 anton marcus ride jay peg in dubai....now that sets him apart...that moment of brilliance,is what we talking about...everybody says its the horse(and i agree,to a degree)....but that moment was all about the jockey...show me a clip of hughes do that sort of miracle riding and then we can talk...

RG that was just two wins yesterday

He does it every day!!!!

He got beat on one the race after that I thought he gave a brilliant ride to , horse hung on the camber , but instead of battering the horse he let the horse finds it's feet and managed to get a run from him and was just lucky a more straight forward horse got the run of the race

my point is...that that doesnt make him the greatest...winning races is all well and good...but winning races that u not supposed to win,is what sets someone apart..(look hughes is a dam good rider...its the first thing i look for on a uk card is where hughes is riding),but that clip i saw....he was never gonna lose that race(body posture),from the 400,he was going just too well...in fact had he lost that race from that position,it would have been construed a bad ride...but i remember 1 ride that hughes rode(think name is olympic gold/medal)in the olympic year in GB..boxed 3/4 times...had no rite to win that race, but he picked that horse up in his hands and got him over the line..that was also a great ride.....but the dubai duty free,A MARCUS 50/1...BEATEN AT THE 200M..WILL BE ETCHED in memory,,,greatest ride of all time for me

just finished reading his book nah dave I reckon he is still 2nd to anton Marcus even though he rode 30 English classic winners...the last at the ripe old age of 57 ..his ride on his comeback trail in the Arlington million wasn't to shabby either...without any doubt the greatest jock of them all
