Are these vaccinations at yards done to all the horses in their care at the same time?
Is it done at a certain time of year?
What is the rest and recovery time after a jab?
Maybe Craig could inform the uninformed

I think trainers should know the level of fitness etc etc their horses are in before race day. IMHO vaccinations are part and parcel of their yearly programs and when they administer the public should be informed accordingly. Having said all this I think the Paul Matchett stable in jhb is badly off form for a large stable. In kzn it had to be Cunha's.

100% correct punters should be informed at to when Vaccinations are given. Without a doubt this does seem to seriously impact horses ability and thus stable form. Think it was Brett Crawford last year who commented strongly on the fact that a live visrus has to be injected into the horses which was a disgrace if memory serves me right!!!!!

Sorry DTF, very slow in picking up you wanted a reply. The flu vaccination is a minor one and has to be done every 6 months. No set time at all and I know of horses that have won the day after the vaccination. The Horse Sickness vac is the one that no one likes. It is a live virus and comes in 2 separate injections. In all areas except the Western cape these 2 injections are normally given in the window period after 1st July. Both injections must be given not less than 21 days apart and both must be done before 31st December. This gives a bit of leeway to the trainers. Horses cannot move into the WC within 60 days of any of the vaccinations. It could be done that the dates are given to the operators but the difference in how the horses work in those 3 weeks is different with every trainer. Your 2nd week is when the horses must have a quiet week but some Vets say that if you take their temperatures and they are fine and eating then carry on as normal. Some trainers give them off completely and some keep them in light work and some as I said just carry on as normal. Unless you have the dates and know the horses and are there watching them work you don't know who is doing what. I hope this helps and just does not confuse people!

leon erasmus yard. 1 win from 110 runners this season.
less than 1 % strike rate.
average is about 5 % for the yard.

Thank you Mr Eudy... Much appreciated.
Wish there was a way that public could be informed as to when the Flu Jabs are administered as whilst some horses can win as Mr Eudy states maybe it does indeed affect the potential and ability of most of them..
If not the Flue Vacc then why are so many stables havinga shocking run with Form.. ???
