Meaning of "Non-Black Races"
10 years 9 months ago
There is a race at Fairview on 5 September listed as "Non Black" in the name of the race. (Race 5).
I always thought it was a race where the horses were with any colour except Black. That must be wrong. What is real meaning, please.

Means not a listed race, not a group 1, 2, or 3 but it may be a race with a half decent purse / stakes ( then they say non black type )

The phrase "Black type" is really an error/anomaly/misnomer. All pedigree books are printed in black ink. What they really mean is "Bold type" - those races which are printed in BOLD in the pedigree performances.

In typographical terms black refers to a print being bolder
