BloodStock South Africa’s Breeze Up Gallops were concluded on Thursday 16th October at Yellow Star Stud in the beautiful farming district of Mooi River, a 2hr drive from Durban in the province of KwaZulu-Natal. Over 100 horses were put through their final paces ahead of the Sale on Sunday 2 November. The video recording is now live on the TBA website:
www.tba.co.za/bsa/catalogue.php?url=2014rtr
The 125 strong catalogue might be small in number (find supplementary entries attached), but high on quality featuring some of South Africa’s best performed stallions including Captain Al (SAF), Fort Wood (USA), Judpot (USA), Kahal (GB), Silvano (GER), Trippi (USA), Var (USA) and Western Winter (USA) and a smattering from overseas like Bernadini (USA), Henrythenavigator (USA), I Am Invincible (AUS) and Star Witness (AUS).
The majority of horses will arrive at the TBA’s world class Sales Complex in Johannesburg from Sunday 26 October and professional consignors Ambleway Stables, Balmoral Stud, Far End Stables and Yellow Star Stud look forward to showing off their drafts.
Please note that Piroplasmosis tests will be available for scrutiny on Friday 31 October and will be posted on the TBA website.
For all logistical and accommodation requirements, please contact myself or Caroline Simpson.
Best wishes

Two of the hottest stallions currently at stud in South Africa have strong drafts on offer at this weekend’s Emperors Palace Ready To Run Sale.
Black Minnaloushe, whose Triple Crown winning son Louis The King runs in Saturday’s Gr2 Charity Mile, has been enjoying a purple patch with his runners of late.
Over the weekend, his son Greek Legend maintained his unbeaten record with a smart victory over 1800m, while on Tuesday, another son of Black Minnaloushe, prevailed in a Turffontein feature race.
American Storm, like Louis The King trained by Geoff Woodruff, picked up the first feature race win of his career, when storming home in Tuesday night’s Listed Egypt Air Java Handicap at Turffontein. The 5yo gelding, bred by Pam Lowe, pushed his earnings to over R350 000 in the process. He looks a top class prospect for some of South Africa’s top staying events.
A top class stallion, whose offspring include the likes of Breeders Cup Sprint hero Dancing In Silks, SA Oaks vixen Wild Ash, and Equus Champion Kochka, Black Minnaloushe has four lots on offer at the 2014 RTR Sale:
Lot 58 is a colt out of a Silvano half sister to two stakes winners. This nicely bred colt also hails from the family of the top class Grade 2 performer Cagiva amongst a host of other stakes performers.
Lot 60 is a half sister to two winners, including the useful stakes performer Jungle Jim. This nicely bred filly’s relatives also included high class sprinters Prince Elliodor and Blow The Whistle.
Lot 92 is a colt from one of the best families in the South African stud book. His three time winning dam is a full sister to Grade 1 winner O Caesour, and this is the family of champions Enchantress, Harry’s Charm and National Currency.
Lot 92 is a filly with a stunning pedigree. She is out of top class Grade 2 winning mare Supper Club, and hails from the family of Equus Champion Festive Occasion –herself the dam of exceptional Grade 1 winner Do You Remember, now campaigning in Australia.
Another local sire who has enjoyed a tremendous run of success is six times champion 2yo sire Captain Al. The latter had two graded winners in just three days, when his son Disco Al won Sunday’s Gr3 Algoa Cup for a second year in a row. Captain Al filly Pine Princess gave her sire a memorable double when landing Tuesday night’s Gr3 Racing Association Yellowwood Handicap at Turffontein.
Sire of 26 Grade 1 horses, Captain Al has three lots on offer:
Lot 30 is a colt whose dam is a half sister to US Grade 1 winner Crimson Palace. This well bred colt’s second dam is the top class Grade 1 juvenile Perfect Guest, and this colt should come to hand earlier if his pedigree is anything to go by.
Lot 35 is another exceptionally well bred colt. His five time winning dam is a half sister to five stakes horses, including the ill fated Grade 1 SA Classic hero Divine Jury, and this is also the family of former J&B Met winner Martial Eagle.
Lot 119 is a nicely bred filly, whose dam, by leading broodmare sire Qui Danzig, was a top class 2yo who ran third in the Gr2 Fillies Nursery. She looks sure to make up into a classy juvenile.

Re: 2014 Emperor's Palace Ready to Run Sale

A strong middle market ensured a healthy increase in prices at the 2014 Emperors Palace Ready To Run Sale.
The sale, which took place at the TBA complex on Sunday, concluded with an aggregate of R22 340 000 which was a 5% increase on last years total of R21 245 million.
Both average and median prices rose pleasingly for the one day sale, with the average jumping up a staggering 30%.
The 2013 sales average price was R186 360, in contrast with the sturdier figure of R242 826 this year.
The median rose by nearly as much, jumping by 29% from R120 000 a year ago, to R155 000.
A pair of colts fetched R1.2 million apiece, to jointly top the sale.
2014 TBA Ready To Run Sale Lot 27 - Unnamed (Bernardini - Coffee Shop)
Lot 27 – Unnamed (Bernardini – Coffee Shop)
Lot 27 was a big talking horse pre-sale, and he duly lived up to expectations by topping the Ready To Run Sale.
Consigned by Balmoral Stud, whose juveniles were all turned out superbly, the unnamed colt is a son of former US Champion, and world leading sire, Bernardini.
Knocked down to prominent owner Alesh Naidoo, the colt hails from a superb female line, responsible for, among others, international champion Henrythenavigator.
2014 TBA Ready To Run Sale - Lot 35 - Redcarpet Captain (Captain Al - Divine)
Lot 35 – Redcarpet Captain (Captain Al – Divine)
The other colt to head the sale was lot 35, also consigned by Balmoral Stud. The beautifully bred juvenile, who was snapped up by Brian Burnard, is a son of perennial leading sire Captain Al and out of a five time winning half sister to ill-fated Gr1 SA Classic winner Divine Jury, as well as J&B Met hero Martial Eagle, to name but two of the stars from this glittering family.
The TBAs Kevin Woolward attributes the sale’s overall gains to a solid middle market, commenting “We are extremely happy with the sale’s outcome, which benefitted from a tremendously strong middle market, ensuring solid prices all round.”
