Scratchings and Deductions
10 years 11 months ago
Can some1 please tell when deductions is allowed on a scratched horse ?
or how the percentage on the scratched horse is calculated ?
Is the a time limited for trainers to scratched a horse?
Why is it that i must pay for a deduction where as i dont have the scratched horse in my multi, double ect ?
Where does these deductions go to?
is not the case that the price you see is the price you get paid at?
or how the percentage on the scratched horse is calculated ?

Deductions

The deduction is not applied on the scratched horse. It is applied on the remaining runners. A trainer can scratch a horse whenever he wants subject to a "valid" reason.
When a horse is scratched you will see the tote odds on all other runners get reduced. The bookmakers use the chart above which is not entirely fair (that is for another day).
Can someone else maybe help me here !! I am not a great teacher but if we all are looking for new blood to save the industry this is not a bad place to start

With any scratching the odds of your bet winning is increased therefore you are penalised. It goes to say the more fancied the scratchings the bigger the deductions
in a four horse field your one has a 25 % chance. With a scratching that has increased to 33% and so on

@good2soft. When a horse is scratched it stands to reason that the prices of the other horses should shorten. Correct? If you dont want your price to shorten then it also stands to reason that you should not be refunded if your horse is scratched. You cannot have your cake and eat it.
