Yes, that came after the official betting eventually came out. There are no firms left though that do their own betting. Obviously not a financially sound proposition.

Natal Bookmakers association employ two people : one for major centres and another for the unenviable task of Port Elizabeth and Kimberley.

In the past the natal bookmakers society used to take various bookies prices and take an average and post, I am still in favour of an exchange principle where Interbet would put up the fields and in a process between bookies and punters the market would find its own prices based on supply and demand

i fully agree with dave...all betting seems to revolve around what the demand and supply is at interbet....to manipulate the market is very easy at the moment...so easy that 1 must decide before looking at a price , what they would like the price to be....to have a horse shorten in the morning of a race just go on interbet and take what they have on offer and put a ridiculous amount behind it,just to make it seem tht there is pressure for that horse...so even with no money on interbet u can wangle the market....its crazy..and the amounts are a pittance....so some will say...my opening statement was that i agree with dave and he said that interbet should be where the betting should originate, and yet i say that with interbet its so easy to manipulate the market...looks a contradiction on my my part...where interbet is falling short at the moment is the amount they are offerring early....on any price of any horse they should start up with a winnable amount of 50 000...25 000 on first timers...and then let the market dictate...this 2k that they have is worse than betting world openning early

Cheers Guru, I did say was in favour of the " principle of an exchange" and I understand that the liquidity is shocking but if all parties were to use the one channel the prices would become realistic if it was actual punts and lays to give a proper betting market to establish fair prices.

Must say I am not too disappointed that BW have stopped opening up early. This gives more people a chance to get on a horse before the odds get slashed on BW. A few weeks ago Olympic Airways opened up at 20/1 on BW and by the time the official betting opened it was 9/2. So only BW account holders who were quick had a chance to get the big odds on this horse.
